Hello, I have a remote box in my bonus room over the garage. The cable runs through the attic and lately the playback will pause every few seconds. It has been steadily getting worse to the point that I can't watch anything upstairs. I have another remote box in the master bedroom and I switched them but the problem persists. The playback in the master bedroom is fine and this unit is only a few feet from the main DVR, (through the wall basically). I have searched the web and I think the problem is with the cable.
I think the problem would be solved if I had ATT switch the rg-6 cable with CAT5 cable. Another solution is to use one of the new wireless boxes in place of what I have as this unit is just a few feet from the wireless router. But these are not available in my area yet.
So I was thinking, there is a CAT5 or LAN connection on the back of this box. Could I just run a CAT5 cable from the router to this box ? Would that work ? I don't know if this would work but I do know that the new wireless units have a component that plugs into the router. And if the whole house was switched to CAT5, wouldn't the CAT5 go through the router anyway ?
Just wondering, let me know if you know. Thanks in advance !!

Are you sure that you are unable to get a wireless receiver? They should be available to anyone who wants one by calling Customer Service to place an order.
Yes, you can run a cat5 cable from the U-verse RG to the receiver. All of the U-verse receivers are connected to the RG in some manner.

Dear texasguy37, Thanks for the reply !! I did call customer support and they said the wireless receivers weren't available here yet. I am in the Birmingham AL area. I will call back and make sure.
In the meantime, I am going to hook this receiver up to the router and see if I can get that working.
I hope the tornadoes missed you in Texas. We have a lot here.
Thanks again !!

Unless he has an iNID. Wireless receivers cannot be ordered or installed on iNIDs, although some techs have said that if an additional Ethernet cable is run from the i3812V and plugged into the user Ethernet port, and the port is enabled, then they will work. But that is unofficial and not technically allowed.

Good point. I would curious to know what type of RG the OP has. I don't know of any reason why the wireless receivers would not be available to be used in a certain market.

Okay, I connected a cat5 cable from the remote box to the router, this one is known as a twisted pair, sorry if I don't get the terminology right, and I was able to get to my recordings on the remote box. But alas, I still have the playback problem. Some nights, nothing will play for more than 5 seconds without pausing and other nights it plays just fine. It also seems to only happen at night as I have tried it in the morning before going to work and it seems to work okay.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this ? Is it because Internet traffic is more busy at night rather than in the morning ?
Thanks !!
