About time. Browsers such as Firefox and Chrome have been doing this for years.......
Does the active checker also tell you where to insert periods to avoid run-on sentences? Lol. ![]()

I installed it on my old Dell Duo Netbook/Tablet hybriad and have found it to be a refreshing experience when useing this computer as a tablet. Some of the downloadable games won't work due to it being an Atom Processor. There are some minor complaints I have for it that can easily be solved with the devlopment of a new app or such (no metro style calculator)

Indeed it is. Instead you're given a start menu that has the metro look that takes up the whole screen.

Are they going for the tiled-look (X-Box, Windows Phone)?
The touch-screen thing is optional, I'd assume!
Not sure I'm liking this version? Another ME? ![]()
Sounds like they're trying to look like OSX?

Yep. Microsoft wants a familiar look across all of their products. The touch screen is completely optional seeing that desktops and non-touchscreen laptops will come with Windows 8 as well.
Before you write it off as being another ME or Vista, I would suggest that you play with it. I've found that I move around the computer a little bit faster with the metro look than I do using Windows 7.
Also, this looks nothing like OSX or iOS. It's definately its own unique look and feel.

I don't have a machine I can devote to a trial right now, but hope it is an improvement, not a disaster.
Have they made the security overrides easier? I skipped Vista, but 7's constant locks on folders everywhere drive me nuts! I ended up doing the Take Ownership Tweak.
I understand wanting to be secure, but this is my own computer, nobody else uses it, and there is no need to have folders on lock-down. ![]()
Just looked at a desktop view of 8, don't really like it. This will make me jump ship to OSX!
Apple's interface is just cleaner and easier, and I'm no fanboy! I want my desktop background with nice icons. ![]()
If this is what 8 looks like, I think it looks juvenile and disorganized.
Just like a Windows phone!

1. Reduce the number of mouse clicks and/or movements to get your desired program or document launched.
2. Make the interface work equally well with mouse or touchscreen so that desktops and mobile devices all have the same interface.
I was very skeptical and hesitant of this interface as well, but after reading an explanation from one of the Microsoft MetroUI designers, he states some very compelling reasons why the interface should move away from the (rather limited) start menu.

I read somewhere (I think) that if the user just cannot accept or function with the "new" look he/she can reinstate the old, familiar appearance. But I confess that my memory is fuzzy on this one.
My primary interest in Windows 8 is for use with a tablet such as the Acer W500 which is currently sold with Win 7.....and 7 just is not designed for touch tablet use.

I finally had time to sit down and read those blogs, S.J. Thanks for providing the links. I found them very interesting. I'm kind of looking forward to Win 8....more than any of the previous versions....I think. Finally.....at long last....I can have one of those touch tablet PC's like Captain Kirk and Spock had in the early Star Trek episodes.

I am holding out for the famous Scotty line in Star Trek " Computer On".

While I like the full screen look of IE 10, YOU CAN'T add Adobe Flash to it and you can't add tabs.
I wonder when the Windows 8 software come out if there will be a discount for those who have the preview version installed.
I noticed that you can keep the Windows 8 preview until January 2013. And you know APPLE will roll out their Mac commercials bashing Windows 8.
Good night.

They'll probably have the pre-order discounts like last time, but the family pack discounts didn't come until after the pre-order prices IIRC. ![]()
I know I'll be forced to update eventually.
