Would really like to kick back and relax Father's Day.
Will probably be cooking out for large group of family and friends.
May be a chore but at least great company! ![]()

Thought it might have been 'Pizza The Hut' from Spaceballs instead ![]()
My birthday was rather uneventful, had some cake and went to bed early. Had to take a sick day today since my cold is getting worse and I could barely talk this morning - still having trouble without caughing every other sentence
Hopefully I can get it taken care of, and no, I haven't tried Ox's secret medicine yet either

Hey KK. A belated happy birthday. 21 years ago you were just a severe stomach pain.![]()
I'm really pooped. Brought a 2002 Volvo S60 sedan back from San Antonio. A nice highway car. Big delay at the auction in S.A. because the tires were nearly bald and their specifications sheet stated the tires had lots of tread left. I sweet talked them and they put on a whole set of new Michelins.... free....so I had brand new tires to drive back to K.C. Good people. THEN.....I get home and my true love, bless her heart, decides it's going to rain and the grass needs mowing TONIGHT....like in NOW. She did part of it and I did the rest. That is why I'm pooped. So Alfie and I curled up for a nap on the floor a little while ago. Feel better now. Next Thursday I have to fly to Nashville, TN to pick up another vehicle. It's crazy....have to fly to Atlanta and then change planes and fly back to Nashville. To make things even more interesting I have to get up at 3:00 AM....be at the airport by 4:30 to catch a 5:30 AM flight. Geez I hate flying. And...yes SPD....my son pays me a fee plus expenses to retrieve these cars.
RC.....there comes an age when one feels old no matter how we phrase it. For example....In August I shall observe the 52nd anniversary of my 21st birthday. See what I mean?

Until their products start failing doubt it would significantly damage them as there are many people behind the curtain that have been influenced
by Jobs as to keep running the company in that direction for years but I believe he still has "One more thing" .

I keep hoping that eventually Apple will come out with a product I can find a use for. Hasn't happened yet......at least nothing I'm willing to spend the big bucks for. I listened to some music once on my granddaughter's I-pod (or whatever it's called). Absolutely awful sound quality. I can't stand the effect the compression has on the sound. If that was the best available I think I would never listen to recorded music at all. Thankfully much better sound is available elsewhere. Mind you I'm not taking shots at anyone else who loves those devices. But not for me. IMHO
Transplant or not....Jobs has not been in good health for quite a while. I think he has been battling cancer for some time.

I agree with hpmsm compressed music on mp3 players are substandard IMO that includes all players thats why all my music on my iPod and iPhone are in lossless with the exception of the one hit wonders I purchase off of iTunes and then I go for the + at 256 instead of 128. As for their
laptops I think they are among the finest if not the finest out there my MBP has been going strong for 3 years and for those that like OSX I being
one after using all forms of Windows find it still the best for my situation.

Agree with everything said...just comparing pics of him now and a few years ago, definitely ill.
Digital music isn't as good, BUT for taking 3K songs with me anywhere, can't beat it! Remember how difficult it was to listen to personal music in the olden days?
Wish I had a photo of my portable turntable...and then you had to drag those huge albums with you, same for 45's--had cases for both, but cumbersome. 8-tracks and cassettes, same problem, and sound not too good. CDs same and bad digital sound.
But think we are in the minority as most don't have a clue.
Son hears it and complains, but he inherited a good music ear (and is a musician).
I'd like Apple to make their computers come with Win out of the box and make it work like Mac O/S.
But they'd need to make them tinkerable as it's what Win people like to do.

Randy......you are incurable.....but great. I love it!!!!
We've come full circle. The quality of the sound from today's players is very much like what we heard from those old Victrolas.
I've always known that the Apple computer system, including the OS, were superior to PC's and the various Microsoft operating systems. But.....in my case.....way back at the beginning....my computer needs were pretty much closely related to my ham radio hobby and the applications were nearly all written for PC's. I don't think that is so much the case now days and not relevant because of the cross over capabilities of today's systems.....but back then, in the '80s....it pushed me toward PC's and I just never changed.
I can think of a couple of other companies whose founders tried to retire but came back when things began to slip. One was Gates computers and the other was Winnebago RV's. In the latter the founder, a guy named Hanson I think, retired and turned the company over to his son who just could not handle the job. So pop came out of retirement at a rather ripe age and took over again to save his company.
It's gonna be a roaster today. It's noon and we're at 92 degrees with a steamy 60% relative humidity. Took Alfie for our morning walk at 9:00 AM and after about 3 blocks he stopped and just stood there looking at me and panting like crazy. I took the hint and gratefully turned and headed back toward home. Ya know I'm old enough that I can remember hot Kansas nights when my dad, mom and I would sleep on the living room floor, in front of the open front door and a fan blowing on us.....just to try to stay comfortable. In my teens the folks had an attic fan installed. At night we'd throw open the windows and watch the curtains stand out straight from the cooling breeze. It sure made sleeping a lot easier. Then in the morning we'd close up the house and try to retain some of that night-cooled air while the world outside roasted. Dad installed window AC units at his office around 1950 and then in the summer of 1953 we finally got a couple of 1 ton Frigidaire window units for windows on the first floor of our home. No insulation in that old house....no double paned windows.....no blower on the furnace so conversion to AC would have required and entirely new system. The furnace was an old coal burner converted to natural gas.....gravity fed heat. I'm here to tell you that the "good old days" were NOT all that good.

House I grew up in HAD an attic fan! We only had window units in the bedrooms and kitchen. That's a big problem with today's houses (again, we went backwards), they aren't designed with cross-ventilation properties. And houses down here with a detached garage (mostly) have a door with a fold-down ladder for attic access. Don't think it would ever work here with the sloped ceilings, but hear they still make them!
I'm the first to admit, there is NO way I could live here w/o A/C! I'm so old we only had open windows and a huge fan in elementary school. Now the babies demand having A/C on the bus!
We are known as the most air-conditioned city, so you don't notice the heat as much (or pretend not to...).

Had the same thing crack all the windows a few inches open the garage side door and fire up the attic fan and then we got AC about the same time we got color tv did not realze how colorful Gunsmoke and Bonanza was and did not have in school AC until junior high it just seems hotter now than it was then.

Real nice!! ![]()
Yesterday had long article in The Columbus Dispatch about all the Kodachrome slides being thrown away by 'Sports Illustrated' because of being digitized. SI editors created a book called 'Slide Show' that has photos of lots of great sports shots taken on Kodachrome. Pretty neat.
Was suprised to read in your link that Kodachrome is actually purely black & white film and all those brilliant colors come out, or are added, during very complicated photo processing.
Sad to see anything like this go.
edit: text/link correction.

I just readthat about that film.
Still have lots of slides, on my LONG to-do list for getting things printed.
UT--that solar fan is like a ventilator, a replacement for the turbine vents. What I love about solar power is you can't have trees! ![]()
Here's more of what me and oz are talking about, they are huge fans and you have to open windows/doors for them to work properly. Maybe they'll be making a comback? Everything old is new again. ![]()
