I hate them. With a passion. I don't think there's another insect, animal, or creature that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up like a cockroach does.
I cannot be in the same room with one, knowing that it's there. Thus, when I see one, I have to stop everything, find it, and kill it. One of them kept me awake for 3 hours one night until I found it and killed it.
The **bleep** things attack me. They'll run 2/3 the way up the wall and then fly at me. The buzzing noise they make when they fly is the kind of sound that nightmares are built around.
I've seen one of these down here in Texas fly off with half a turkey sandwich ... ![]()

Not to mention how many diseases these things carry and if you ever have to have your sewer worked on you now know where the majority hide.

SomeJoe, have some d@m flying wood roaches up here that get a little over an inch long and sometimes get in the house. Know what you mean about having to hunt them down and smash them to put your mind at ease. Think my daughter did have nightmares about them. Don't doubt you at all but just have to laugh picturing one flying away with half a turkey sandwhich! ![]()
Escapee, I almost did swallow the thing whole if wouldn't have gagged on it first. ![]()
oz, thanks for letting me know they live in sewers and have to go use some Listerine. ![]()
spd, great photo. Did you try CPR? ![]()

As discussed before, they can hang onto your skin, especially a hairy arm or leg or your head (if you are not bald). Just creeps me out, and the way they fly and chase you. I was freaking out when I macro'd him...trying to take the picture and hope he didn't come back to life!

Hey this guy could be a first time poster:
“The telephone company consciously misleads and cheats the client,” Ryan said. They may want to see if they were charged for any damaged, lost or unreturned phone equipment. Wonder if they were promised any rebates or promotional deals? ![]()
Do feel bad for the Harris County/taxpayers and figures the PUC would over rule the judge. In Ohio this reg agency is PUCO and it is pronounced Puke-O. Utility company wants a rate hike; PUCO says go for it. ![]()

LOL, first-time poster!
Know about the sewers, but the raccoons live down there as well; hope they eat them before reaching the house!
No CPR, and that would be needed for ME if it jumped up...no laughing matter! Native, yeah, should be used to them...NOT...ever!!!

I agree I have actually put a knot on my forehead trying to avoid one of their chase landings from my front porch squaring the post and the thing still managed to get on me making matters worse.

They found they survived the Ice Age and are prehistoric...Natural Science Museum in Houston has a replica of a prehistoric one...huge! Unfortunately, the fliers acclimate to the heat and humidity.
Was talking out trash last week and spotted a huge flier on front porch. We use wasp spray to kill them as you can shoot from afar, and run! Plus the heavy dose of spray gets to them quicker. Decided to take a flashlight and look for others, found 6 more on the brick front and side...no way I was going in the unlit areas! Exterminator says they live underground and when it gets dry, they come out looking for water. ![]()
They do spread disease and if they're dead in your air ducts decaying, can be a problem. ![]()
Couldn't find a photo, but this fossil is old news and apparently OH had a climate like TX millions of years ago. Notice how they say they survived the drought.
Why you want these in your yard at night, they eat cockroaches!

edit for format

Had a part chow shepherd mix when I was young and he would go mental if a roach got near his bed he would stay up all night killing all he could
chase down.

My Newfoundland Charlie stomps and kills every bug he sees. His favorite is daddy-long-legs. Afraid he will get a hold of the wrong spider some day.
Hey speed here's some of the huge hissing cockroaches that are only 1/2" shorter than the fossil they found in Ohio. Have seen Jack Hanna, Director Emeritus of the Columbus Zoo, on many late night talk shows with these. If your flying cockroaches from Africa can adapt to Texas I'm sure these can too. Bummer they cannot fly. You can order them online or I can drop some off in Houston next time I go to CA.

But it's not as bad as it sounds...like we've discussed before, you will RARELY see them indoors; if you do, then you're leaving food out or not sealed up. If you don't night-garden, you won't even know they're around.
Besides, we're #1 to make a living these days!

Hey, doesn't that big rubber rattler that lives by your patio eat those big cockroaches? ![]()
Think I know why Houston and Dallas are such boomtowns with people working there tails off. It's just too stinking hot outside and they would rather stay inside working, even through lunch! ![]()

Guess I missed a post, RC. Why are you considering moving?
Sure hope that all went well for SHOW today. I forgot to ask if it was outpatient work or if he would have to stay in the hospital a day or two.
WELL STUPID ME. I went and read the right thread and got my second question answered.

My wife and I are planning to move, and are considering (greatly) to moving to a warmer climate. It was something I posted about months ago, we are still in the decision making process. Every now and then the subject surfaces around here.
