AT&T raves about U-Verse and rightfully so - I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it. I only wish there was a better way to find out when it might be available in my area. The only way, apparently, is to flag down a truck in my neighborhood and ask the driver. How can it be that there is no state schedule? Do we really operate this way?????
First of all have you walked around the neighborhood to see if a VRAD is close to you? If you knew where the crossbox (where your line connects to the small trunk that then goes to the central office) that services you, it would be a good start as usually they are installed near the crossbox, they can be 'hidden'. Generally it is 2' x 4' x 4' and tan, should have an electric meter, making noise inside and have ATT stickers on it, that may be active, but not necessarily 'green' yet.
Also, ATT has had trouble meeting stated deadlines, due to the complexities of the technology, and doesn't give out any timeline info about anything. The only official announcements come after lengthy discussion here and uverseusers.com that something has 'arrived'.
In my case I saw fiber being strung on the poles the fall of 07, early winter two pads were laid (one for the VRAD and one for the new crossbox on the ground) next to the pole my crossbox was on. Over that winter, a number of ATT trucks were there 'tented' stringing all the lines for both units, finally in March the electric meter went in. More trucks showed up to work, conditioning all the lines for Uverse. So come early June I decide to buy a 42" Panasonic plasma and later that month see if I can get HD from Dish, turns out a tree is in the way of the 121 satellite, so no HD from them. Comcrap wasn't an option, so I started entering my address in the address checker, finally June 29th I got the Congratulations page and ordered Uverse online. The next week I started getting flyers that Uverse was available and a phone call, the gentleman was surprised I'd already ordered Uverse. Good luck
Please NO SD stretch-o-vision or 480 SD HD Channels

If it is available they still may tell you it is not or refuse you service. Here is my experience: Do not waste your time with ATT U-verse if you move into Broadstone Apartments in Fort Worth TX. The apartments are all hard wired for the service but all of the geniuses in customer service can not put your address in the system. Myself and several other residents have been attempting to get service for several weeks to months. Don't be fooled by the U-Verse pre-wiring in the closet save yourself days of aggravation and time by just going with direct tv or dish network. I promise in the end you will feel better going this route. Oh and by the way I was told by AT&T 911 is not even available real safe.
Good luck get satellite save your time and aggravation.

Oh the botched wiring job again.
Re the discovery on service availability. This has come up multiple times. I recommend you locate your local AT&T store and ask the management if they have any info on future availability. That is what we did 1 1/2 years ago. Discovered that it was already to go in our neighborhood and we've been happy subscribers ever since.
