If I'm not mistaken the WPS on the Uverse gateways (access point) is somewhat buggy, not to mention WPS as a technology is somewhat unsecure. It is commonly suggested to disable the WPS function in the gateways as it usually causes more problems than it solves.
That being said, If you have the 2WIRE 3600HGV or the 3800HGV the big button on the front I believe activates the WPS. Remember that your printer must be close to the gateway for the WPS to work, within 1 meter if I remember correctly.
It's not that difficult to set up your printer without using the WPS. Shouldn't take more than ten minutes.

How can I make my printer wireless without WPS? I too have a Canon Pixma and a Mac and can't get it wireless. The onlything showing up is a scanner, but not the printer??

I don't have a Cannon but when setting a printer/all in one on a Mac I found if you first connect using USB and hit software update it will grab the latest drivers/firmware then you should be able to turn the wireless on and connect using DHCP at which point it should prompt you for your wireless password and when entered it should join.

I have a Canon Pixma MX880 and you do not need WPS to setup the wireless on a Uverse RG. Simply follow the user manual/DVD and setup manually. I realize WPS was intended to make things easier to setup but I have never had it work.

I received a letter in the mail informing me that ATT would be dropping their DSL services and that I would HAVE to get UVERSE installed. The Technician came out and installed the equipment. I got all of my computers to interface correctly, however, the Printer (Canon MG3100) will not connect to the WIFI. I have tried a lot of things and I cannot get it to recognize the printer. Everything was working fine. Why mess with something that is working. If I do not resolve this, I will be calling up COMCAST and changing everything over to them. I have spent too much time troubleshooting this already. I have to the router site and placed the MAC address for the printer and lowered the firewall, and it still will not connect. Please assist

You might want to go in to your printer and return it to default settings and then try setting it up to connect to the Uverse wireless. Some existing settngs might be keeping you from connecting.

Aside from my most recent printer (a wireless Brother printer) every printer I've ever set up has been a pain and they all behave like they have tourette's syndrome or bipolar disorder. Don't expect a silver bullet in other words.
I'd recommend what Joe said, just disabling WPS in the RG settings and setting it up using the SSID and password (hopefully the printer will figure out the encryption scheme on its own). Canon has to have setup instructions that don't involve using WPS and I'd follow them to the letter. If it means installing bulky, useless software so be it.

I have a wireless HP Photosmart printer and it's always been straight forward installing it.
