Your dates do seem kind of backwards but guess it doesn't matter since they don't start charging you for Voice until it's activated and working. I couldn't figure out why it said on the directions for my self-install not to install until after 8pm on the activation date and bet any time during that day would be ok.
On the BBU believe their Fed/state mandates say it has to be in place, or at least made available, for 911 emergency phone calls. But from a customer's perspective I'm like you and didn't install it until a few days after everything else was working correctly. Good luck.

Although my activation date was today, the green LED cam ON late last night, so today I grabbed a spare new phone line I had, unplugged the line in the NID and connected the phone line to the Gateway. Called the number and finished the procedure. I'll connect the battery backup power when it comes tomorrow.
Hmm, just got a call showing "Private caller" and no number! Have to get someone to call me to see if everything is correct.

Maybe the private caller was AT&T? LOL. When I set mine up I used my cell phone to call my voice line to see if it was working.

Got the self install kit today. The paperwork states that my activation date is tomorrow or 3/1/13! My oder shows 2/27/13 as my activation date. My account now shows the order as complete because I hooked it up yesterday.
Doesn't anyone really know how these orders go?

Self installs are strange. If it's internet-only self-install, the due dates really don't matter an incredible amount. Technically a premise technician is supposed to go outside to your NID on the due date and make sure your service works to the NID. If the DD shows 3/1 and you have sync/service but a technician was out on 2/27 to confirm service at the NID, the service will work and the order will complete.
Ideally, this is how AT&T would like self-installs to go... due date 2/27, modem received 2/25. Technician comes out on 2/27 before 8pm, customer plugs in their modem and activates their internet/voip after 8pm and everything works perfectly. When orders are amended or your premise had working service within a short period of time, the DD's and the technician schedules will not match up. Also, with VoIP, if porting in a number, the FOC (firm order commitment between carriers) needs to match up or the phone number will not activate.
