I called CS to work out some problems with my landline phone bill which has increased slightly.
While on the phone rep Nique told me there's a promo offer where existing U-verse customers can double their HSI speed and upgrade from Elite 6mbps to Max 12mbps for free for 6-months. I asked multiple times if there was a service agreement/contract where you're locked into continuing with Max and pay the additional $5/month for 12 months, or 24 months, after the free promo expires? She said no and I can go back to Elite after 6 months with no charge or penalty.
So I went ahead with the free Max upgrade and within minutes she had my internet speed working twice as fast. Real nice and while there's no "catch" with this promo offer I'll probably have a difficult time reducing my internet speed back to half of what it is now with Max. I'm sure they probably realize this. Just thought I'd mention this free promo offer, couldn't find it in an online in a search, and seems like a good deal.
While I had Nique on the phone I asked if there was any other promo offers for existing customers concerning U-verse TV service and unfortunately she said no. I told her I'd even sign a service agreement for lower rates on my U450 service and she said there are no such offers for existing customers.
At least I'm happy with the free promo which doubled my internet speed. It should be noted I wrote down the date, time of call, rep's name w/spelling, along with her ID number which I asked for, in case I have any problems with billing or downgrading back to Elite if I decide to do so.

Well if I saw it before, and knew the promo was so widely publicized, do you think I'd be posting the details for others who are alreadly aware of it? I don't need to use account manager, haven't ever received an email on this promo, and bet there are many other users who aren't aware of this offer. Just trying to point out a promo which may help them save some $ and increase their internet speeds for a while. ![]()

FYI.
If you go online and change your service from U450 to U300 the rate drops from $119 to $87, you get an automatic promo of HBO/Cinemax for 3 months, sports package for 1 month and the DVR and first STB are no charge. Even after adding the $10 HD fee you save $22 month on programming for 3 months and $7 on the STB month forever.
OK, its only for 3 months but its better than nothing.

Thanks for the info and it's worth checking out! With my UV TV/internet costing $189/month I'm looking at ways to reduce my costs/services and as usual I'm sure there will be another price increase come Feb 1st.
Downgrading my services from U450 to U300 is exactly what I talked to the phone rep about. She said I would save $30/month and lose only the HBO & Cinemax channels. I asked about the sports channels I'd lose, if I'd still get ESPN and BTN (1650) which I want to keep, and she said they are included in U300. Of course there was no mention of the $10 HD fee as you mentioned I'd have to pay w/U300. Could use $7 off forever since I'm paying for 3 additional STB's ($21 total).
So if I'd save $22 for 3 months, what would my total bill be after this promo ran out, when the $10 HD fee is added, and in saving the $7/month on the 1st STB? I used to keep up on this billing/promo stuff but have gotten kind of rusty since most questions are now answered through referrals. Thanks!
The rep also told me I'd save $20/month if I went to voice instead of my landline service ($35 vs $53.50). But I told her I have frequent power outages and don't want to depend on the BBU which is not very reliable. Guess I need to depend more on our 2 cell phones as most people do. But in living in the boondocks the service may not be all that reliable in severe storms which takes my power out. But have used my cell for contacting the power company before on outages.

Tell you what my bill is/was...
$147 - U450 with 4 boxes + DVR (being charged for 4 STBs)
$118 - U300 with 4 boxes + DVR (being charged for 3 STBs)
| AT&T U-verse U300 | $87.00 |
| HBO® / Cinemax® | $26.00 |
| (3 months free HBO/Cinemax until 12-23-2012) | -$26.00 |
| AT&T U-verse TV The Sports Package | $10.00 |
| 1st month free | -$10.00 |
| Wired DVR Receiver | $0.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $0.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| HDTV Service - HD Technology fee | $10.00 |
| TV Subtotal | $118.00 |
As far as I can tell the only channel I no longer have access to is 364 - LRM (Lifetime Real Women)
I opted out of the extra sports channels promo since I rarely watch them.
When the promo runs out in 3 months $118 + $26 = $ 144
or
Reupgrade to U450 $119 + (3 STBs) $21 = $140
or
See what deal can be had.
Edit:
I made the change on 9/23 but it didn't go into effect until 9/25. Must be 2 day waiting period in case you change your mind.

Here are the details of my current U450 TV bill/charges:
| AT&T U-verse U450 | $119.00 |
| Wired DVR Receiver | $0.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |

| HDTV Service - HD Technology fee | $0.00 |
| TV Subtotal | $140.00 |
Here are the details if I downgraded to U300:
| AT&T U-verse U300 | $87.00 |
| HBO® / Cinemax® | $26.00 |
| 3 months free HBO/Cinemax | -$26.00 |
| AT&T U-verse TV The Sports Package | $10.00 |
| 1st month free | -$10.00 |
| Wired DVR Receiver | $0.00 |
| Wireless non-DVR Receiver | $0.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| Wired non-DVR Receiver | $7.00 |
| HDTV Service - HD Technology fee | $10.00 |
| TV Subtotal | $111.00 |
Both of these are $7 less than what you posted since you have 1 more STB than me. Nice users get a free STB w/U300 but that's made up for in having to pay the $10 HD fee.
It wouldn't make sense for me to downgrade to U300, and continue to keep HBO/Cinemax after the 3-month promo runs out, since I'd be right back to within $3 of U450 ($111 + $26 = $137).
I'll have to check the U300 channel lineup closely, compared to U450, to make sure I'm not going to cancel channels my wife watches. Seems like it would make sense to downgrade to U300 for at least 3 months and then upgrade to U450 again if we decide to do so. If I'm reading this correctly this would knock $7 off our U-450 bill with a free STB in upgrading again.
Still it would be nice to save $29/month in downgrading to U300 and changing to Voice for about another $20 off for a total savings of $50/month.
Thanks for your help! ![]()

The only channel I found not to be on the U300 with the HD fee added was 364 - LRW (Lifetime Real Women).
And yes, you could upgrade back to U450 in a day or two and still get the $7 off on the STB.
Last year I had the U300 and called customer service to inquire if there was a way to get my bill any lower without losing services and the rep told me that if I upgraded to U450 I could get a discount of $65 a month for a year. I couldn't say yes fast enough.
Heres what my bill was until 9/23 when the years promotion ran out. I'm going to call in a few days to see if I can get the same promo. ![]()

Wow, I'd jump on that deal in a heartbeat too! So were you in a service agreement/contract to get $65/month off for a year? I even told the phone rep I'd enter into a service agreement if she could lower my rates like the new customers signing up. No dice.
So here's what I might do. I'll go ahead and downgrade to U300 for a little while since I have up to 3 months for about the exact same services as U450. Then I'll call in and tell them I'm willing to sign up for Voice to bundle w/my TV & internet while at the same time upgrading to U450. Maybe I'll throw in how much it costs them to maintain my landline phone too since I know they would just as soon drop/sell that service altogether. Hopefully they can make me an offer I also can't refuse! ![]()

Nope, no contract, just happened to get a rep that put some effort in researching and offfering promotions.
On the plus side for AT&T, they probably more than made up the difference since anyone asking me about my UVerse service got glowing reviews. I don't know how many made the switch but there used to be 1 2wire on my network map and now there are 5.

Well, had to call AT&T again about my landline bill where I never received the $6 credit for unlimited calls to Canada removed from my bill. Had a real good phone rep named Katrina who immediately credited $6 to my acct/bill.
Also went ahead and downgraded my service from U450 to U300. This will drop my total U-verse bill about $30 a month and received the free 3-month promo for HBO & Cinemax channels. The only thing I lost was the sports channel package and don't watch those particular channels anyway. My free HBO & Cinemax promo will expire Jan 24 and my free 6 month promo upgrade from Elite to Max doesn't run out until March 26.
I also mentioned to the rep I've been having some problems in sometimes being unable to connect to the internet and freezing picture on my TV's, particular late at night. She was quick to say she would get me over to TS but asked how long this has been going on. Told her 2 weeks so she immediately credited $36.50 to this months bill. Nice.
She also asked why I didn't have my phone bundled with my U-verse bill? I told her, "you tell me", and went onto explain I have a landline where I used to receive a bundled discount but don't anymore. Also told her a landline phone and UV bill cannot be combined. So she went ahead and tried to sign me up with Voice and I told here the last rep said I would save about $25/month in doing this. She said that was too high and actually I'd save $13/month (landline - $51, Voice - $38).
Since this rep seemed fairly generous I told her I would sign a 1-year or 2-year service agreement right now, and bundle Voice phone along with my other services, if she could offer me an introductory promo rate. She couldn't do this so I didn't sign up for Voice yet. Believe I'll wait later in the year and see if they can't make me an offer before my HBO & Cinemax promo runs out.
The rep transferred me over to TS where rep Laurence said I was having line problems. He then reconfigured the RG over the phone and said my problems are now fixed.
Pretty successful day with the AT&T phone/U-verse CS/TS phone reps. Still shooting for a better bundled deal. ![]()

For the past 3 years I haven't been able to get my existing rates reduced for U450 and internet Pro. This excludes the 1st year of service starting in Oct, 2008 where I had excellent/low rates with a 1-year promo deal. Believe my luck may have changed.
Two months ago I downgraded to U450 from U300 and received a free offer of HBO/Cinemax for 3 months. My new rate was reduced from $189/month to $154. I also received a free upgrade from internet Pro to Max12 for 6 months. It should also be noted 1 of my 3 extra STB's charges disappeared from my bill when I downgraded.
Last Friday I called CS and told the rep I didn't want to be charged for HBO/Cinemax when the promo ran out so drop them. I also said I would probably be canceling all my Uverse services next month since I just received a great offer from Directv. I asked the rep if they could offer any lower rates before I sign a 2-year contract with DTV? The rep said they didn't want to lose a 4-year UV customer and transferred me to Customer Relations.
Once rep Lewis was on the phone I explained the above situation and said I would be willing to enter into a 1-year agreement with UV if they could offer a whole lot better rate. He came back and said they would give me U450 for $102/month, along w/Max12 at $38/month, for a total of $140. I told him that wasn't low enough and only $10 less per month than I'm paying now. I didn't bring up this $150 didn't include the HBO/Cinemax I'm getting for free.
After being on hold a manager named Niki came on the phone and said she would knock the costs of my receivers off too (2 x $7) for a total of $126/month for U450 & Max12. She pointed out this is a $55/month in savings and is a 1-year agreement. I went ahead and signed up while Niki said she was going straight back to her desk and email me a copy of the offer/agreement. She also said I wouldn't see the full reduced rates on my bill for a couple months because of billing cycles. I never received any email from her so hope this offer is legit.
Rep Lewis came back on the phone and asked if there was anything else he could do for me. I told him my landline phone bill is way too high at $52/month so I signed up for Voice unlimited at $35/month.The BBU shipped today and I have to pay $15 for shipping. I just hope I can connect Voice successfully because the techs couldn't do it/get a signal on my original install. Lewis swore things have improved and he said I can cancel if unable to install it. I told him I will cancel it before I pay a prem tech the going rate of $99 for a truck roll charge/house call. I made it a point that Voice is not bundled with my other services in case of problems.
I've always dreaded getting rid of my AT&T landline because of power outages but anymore I've been using my cell phone half the time during outages anyway. I also have a gas generator I can connect to the RG/BBU if need be.
Feel pretty good in actually saving $60/month on my UV bill and having double the internet speed I had 2 months ago. Will also save $17/month in going to Voice for a total savings of $77/month.
In speaking to these reps I wrote down the date, times, ID #'s, direct phone number to Lewis, along w/his supervisor's name, if I have any problems.
