Does UVerse TV and Internet and Phone work with regular coax and telephone wiring

I am scheduled for an install of UVerse TV/Internet/Phone service and it is scheduled for 4-6 hours. The only way this would be possible is if they have to re-run wiring in my house. My house is currently wired with regualr coax cable for TV/Internet and regular phone wiring. Are they going to have to run everything with fiber-optic cable or what? Just want to know what to expect.

The installer will (should!) test your existing coax and phonelines; they will use all existing wiring unless something doesn't test out right, then they'll replace.  You should be good to go, as is.

The typical instalation does run from 4-6 hrs depending on the amount of equipment you need to get hooked up.  Sometimes installations are able to take less time as well.  For VOIP they most likely will be running a new line for it unless you have inside wiring that meets the standard.  All newer houses already have that wiring.  Anything older than 1990 probably doesn't.

It works with coax, but it will work better with new cat 5 wiring.  Cat 5 can handle more info and at better quality because it is fiber optic.  I had them rewire my house with cat 5 and it works great.

Cat 5 is not fiber optic, it's copper.

A good installation of coax will perform as well as a good installation of cat5. Where people run in to trouble with coax is if the wiring has deteriorated or if there are old connectors in place somewhere along the cable path. If the cable is in good shape and the connectors have been replaced, there should be no difference.

Mine is wired with all coax and no problems.  I don't have att phone service though.

fiber is expensive and if not protected, easily damaged.  also there are bend specs for fiber.  they are not going to use fiber.   They will use Cat5 if one of the TVs is emitting EMI.

Your installer will not use fiber as at&t does not provide fiber to us techs. CAT5 as stated above is copper. Fiber runs to the crossbox out on the street. It is a fiber run from that crossbox back to the Central Office. From the Crossbox to the premises is copper and everything inside the hose is copper as well unless you had fiber ran yourself. CAT5 or Coax, can provide the same quality install given that all cabling is in good condition and all Coax ends have been replaced with at&t approved compression ends. Should be a failry easy install. It will take 4-6 hrs however. That is a good estimate, could take less time or could take more time, just depends on if the tech should run into any issues that he/she may need to address in the install process.
