My friend has U-Verse internet and cable TV... she had a problem and they had to run new wiring... Her internet and phone is now working, but the TV cable is not working. When they reran the new wire to the gateway modem I don't know if they ran new wiring into the house for the TV... so don't know if that is the reason it is not working.. Can I run a Cat5 cable from the ethernet switch connection on the back of the gateway directly into the U-verse tv box so she can watch her cable tv...

PunjabSis - Is there more to the story?? It is possible that an STB ws forgotten. But, unlikely.
The direct connection can be right, or not, depending on other factors.
Why not have att return to finish the job??

this will be a temporary fix... she is a hoarder.. big time.. and her house is filled with junk mail, things stacked all over the place and she is embarrassed to have anyone in so she has been trying to get it cleaned up first... if I can get her wired for temporary she can call them in later.. I am going to look at it to see what is going on with it if I can... I was able to get the purple screen to appear before and when it says to click Ok, nothing happens.. the menu won't come up on the AT&T Uverse remote.. It is a new remote from At&T with new batteries. I set the remote to control the TV but won't hold the programming for it either. I know they wired new wire to the gateway but don't know why they didn't check the TV..and she didn't mention it to them...Nothing was working when the repair call was set up and think when they came out, they only thought the gateway was the problem and once he had it up and working, didn't ask her about the tv.. and she didn't mention it to him... Not sure what else to try without calling someone in.. If I can get her back up working, .. .if it is wired from the box to the gateway, it will work for her until she calls them back out. She is also low on funds so if I can get her working, it will help her in that area also.. I hate to see her paying for uverse tv and not being able to watch it. ..
Thank you for your response.. If you can think of something else we can try, that would be great... when the gateway was back working, I set the tv and tried to get it to respond.. reset the receiver box and as far as I can get is having the purple screen... but then it goes to "no Signal" Instructions in the pamphlet not really very good to get things working... so really not sure yet if the outside wire going into the house to the box is damaged as the other one was going to the gateway.. thought if I could wire it direct to gateway that would tell us if it is the wiring coming into the house..
have a good day

If you have the press ok screen, the STB is most likely working. Press the lighted oval button on the far left to wake it up.
For the remote make sure it is in the att mode by pressing the att button first.
If the no signal screen is coming from the TV, it is probably the HDMI connection. Try component for HD or composite for SD.
If it is the U_verse no signal. With all the possibilities - check out those possibilities.

Hi... we had a purple screen with 'NO SIGNAL" at the lower left corner... I had tech support on the phone for over an hour trying to get it up.. we I rebooted the gateway twice, and the receiver box a couple times and the man at tech support rebooted from his end... we did everything we could to get it up.. we finally got into the "On Demand" but couldn't get further... after an hour, we did a reset on the remote to put it back to factory settings and did another reboot of the system.. finally after over an hour, I got into the cable...
But my friend just called me and don't know what she did, but something she hit on the remote... cable is back off with "No signal" displayed on the corner once again... don't know what she hit and I don't know the steps to tell her what I did to get it back up... I had to reboot the box a couple times when I lost the signal ... but I was hitting different buttons before I got the signal back again... so now she is down again and she is 14 miles away from me to drive back over there tonight and work on it...
Anyway.. with it wired to the gateway.. will this interfere with the internet.. right now, the gateway ethernet light is flashing and the internet is not coming up...
I'm sorry, but I HATE Uverse... I think she really needs to go to the Dish and DSL and get rid of the Uverse. it has been nothing but problems ... I use Dish and DSL and I don't have these problems...
What is an easy way to tell her to get the signal back again... I have no idea what she pushed to lose it and so I don't know why she lost the signal again...
