how do i stop nusience calls

does anyone know how to stop all the nusience calls from Ann and Rachel who seem to think I want them to lower my credit card rates. We have registered on the good for nothing "Donot call list"to no avail.  We have filed a police report. Called the phone company to complain. Our next opption seems to be dropping our phone service alltogether. Can anyone help?

If you have UVoice (which I assume you do since you are posting on a Uverse forum) you could try blocking the number.

Well...we got rid of those kinds of calls by cutting the land-line umbilical and going completely wireless for both of us.  Wa-la....no more nuisance calls.

If I don't recognize the number on caller id, I don't pick up the phone.

Answer the call by saying "hello this call is being recorded. How can I help you"

Phil - those "reduce your credit card interest," "save on car insurance," "you've won a vacation" and other such telephonic spammers have gone to calling wireless numbers as well.  In fact, some are just programmed to dial each number in every prefix, ie., (xxx) 222-0000, -0001, -0002 and so on.

We just usually use the block feature. Some crazy guy last month tried to make scam calls. The day we blocked him he was literally calling up every two minutes.
