I have a tv and uverse box in a room with a treadmill. It looks like treadmill creates emi that keeps the streaming of recorded programs from working. (Live tv seems fine) Image starts getting pixelated then choppy. If I stop the treadmill, it gets immediately better. If I continue to run, the screen will go black with a message about loosing connection. Treadmill is as far from box as possible. Is there something that I can do or a good AT&T tech can do?

This should not be happening. My W.A.G. is that the treadmill is sending RF noise into the power line. My only suggestion is to get an RF choke and attach it around the treadmill's power cord. Does the treadmill have any sort of remote control or monitoring, Bluetooth or anything like that?

Others have reported similar problems with treadmills -- you can do a search to see what solutions have been suggested.

I have the same issue, and I just called customer service and they are shipping me a new updated Gateway. The signal test on their end showed a weak signal on my end. So, I will see if this fixes the issue, if not there could be an issue with the lines in my area. I live in CT and we had a pretty bad storm in Oct that dropped a ton of lines in the state and my area, and this could be the weak signal as well. Hope this helps!

Treadmills and RG's or even STB's have had issues coexisting on the same circuit. I'm afraid that the new RG might still have issues unless the treadmill and the RG are on different circuits (isolate them).

Get an Isobar Surge Protector for that room for TV and STB and see if that helps. ![]()

Can anyone explain why a treadmill would cause problems like this? Does the nature of the jogging create intermittent surges on the power line?

The VDSL signal is very sentivie and can be corrupted by dirty power or outside stimulus that can be bad. As to the treadmill, the motor is causing dirty power on that circuit. ![]()

try putting a surge protector on the RG and the DVR/STB. If that doesn't fix it, get an electrician to put your treadmill on a dedicated circuit.

To try and eliminate the issue, as someone suggested, use a Tripplite Isobar on the treadmill. When the issue is identified to be a treadmill either during a repair or install, the treadmill is placed on an isobar because the dirty power can not be fed back through the wiring to the RG/STB due to the filter circuits in the isobar.

Here's a great one for you.....
I setup a treadmill that has wifi connectivity. I followed the directions to power up the treadmill, join the network and then initiate a firmware update. Somewhere in this process my U-verse gateway got bricked. (red lights flashing on broadband, etc)
so, a Tech comes out and replaces the gateway. so, I tell him I want him to stay and let me power up my treadmill before he leaves and he says, there's no way the treadmill bricked your gateway through a wireless connection.. It's just a coincidence in timing. so, we go down and I power up the treadmill. I enter the new passcode for the new gateway and click the icon on the console to connect to the internet and sure enough, BOOM! TVs lock up and the gateway is bricked. So, now I have the treadmill people saying it's not them or their problem and ATT is like our stuff is up and running so don't turn on your treadmill it's not our problem.
good times for me. any ideas? the treadmill is running an android powered tablet in the console.
