Why am I still stuck with an outdated, obsolete, decrepit 2Wire 802.11g system?

Really At&t, can someone PLEASE give me an answer that makes ANY sense? What sense does it make for me to pay for the higher data rates on my uverse plan but be stuck with a dinosaur router that can't come close to meeting the data transfer rates I could get with a $40 802.11n router from frys or best buy? It's infuriating beyond belief, and it's actually quite pathetic that, with EVERYONE I meet that uses uverse, they all say the same thing: they say that if there were ANY other option for them to use they'd switch in a heartbeat, but, like me, some {Keep it Courteous} in the apartment complex front office signed an exclusive deal with uverse instead of Verizon FIOS...
So here's my question, and I'm asking other users here since at&t is absolutely ZERO help: is there a way for me to REPLACE (not add one behind) my piece of junk 2wire? Give me a model number and I'll buy it, tell me the settings for my Netgear DGND3300 and I'll try it out, is there ANYTHING I can do?
Thanks users, if this goes away hit me up at {Personal Information Removed} at&t/uverse/2wire...
