I tried to download and activate X-lite softphone. I could not register my account , getting a message " unknown error" and "account cannot be enabled, contact administrator" . I contacted the VOIP provider who confirmed my settings which submitted, so that was not the problem. They also checked and there was never a registration request received for X-lite account, meaning that the request NEVER LEFT THE LOCAL NETWORK. It might be the 2 wire gateway and its settings which block the registration. There is a block remark in the history, if you go into the settings every time I attempted a registration.
Also, when I get an incoming phone call from Localphone Inc. , after 4 rings it gets disconnected and even cannot go to voice mail. It is not Localphone, it is not the ATA, so it has to be again the gateway.( when i pick up it is O.K)
2Wire has no customer support of any kind and ATT technical support is absolutely useless, they do not even understand what the issue is .![]()
Stuck with a proprietary gateway with no choice and no customer support.![]()
Any idea what to do. ? I do not want to do gateway hacks before knowing what I am exactly doing.

Take a look at the firewall, under settings. If it is getting blocked, you might need to setup a pinhole in the firewall to let your computer connect the voip server. What you can try is, setting the device for voip to DMZplusmode and see if that corrects the issue. If you determine that is the issue, then contact your provider and get the port settings you need to open up the firewall for your specific provider. This should get you through for now, until Julie is able to get back to you.
