With all the Ipods, Ipads, PCs, picture frames, etc what is the limit of how many of these things can you have up at once on the local 2wire gateway? Or maybe the question is how many IPs will it support? I am sure that there is a point where performance comes in to question too.
Thanks,
Ron in OKC

More than you'll ever add, but all will concurrently share bandwidth if occuring at the same time. ![]()

Let's see:
4 laptops
2 iPod Touch
2 Nintendo DS
1 Nintendo DSi
1 Nintendo Wii
1 Sony PSP
1 Android Tablet
1 Android Phone
---
13
When I first started making that list (off the top of my head, would have said I only had about 7.

Make sure you don't have Hide Inactive Devices. ![]()
And I'm not counting actual devices showing, the 21 number is the RGs counting of all IP and MAC addys. It has assigned a different set for computers that go wireless and wired.
When I count the actual items in the Devices area, I only see 12. But I can account for all 21, including ones that are not connected (like the netbook). ![]()
I also have ATTs Home Manager phone, so an additional 3 listings--base (router) and 2 frames (phones).
Zoltar's probably in there somewhere, along with my UFO. ![]()

But would you expect the number of devices to impact the ability to connect wirelessly? Seems that with everyone home for the holidays and a lot more devices trying to connect to the wireless that some of tried and true connections, my wife's iMac for example can not connect now. Thoughts anyone?
You could call ts and ask them to turn up the wireless signal on your RG. Last night I wasn't able to connect to one of my laptops. I checked the signal the computer was seeing and it was low. While on the phone with a csr, he told me to wait while he turned up the signal. When I checked the computer again it showed the signal was good.

It is possible that the wife was connecting to the wrong 2wire device, if you have a lot of neighbors with them. I show 9 active 2wire RG's, and I know one next door that is not running Wifi, due to that neighbor does not have any wifi devices, so it makes 10, maybe 12 that I know of around me.

You could try changing the Wireless channel, here:
http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_2_1
To find out which channels your neighbors are using, download inSSIDer .
Find a channel that is not being used by many, and/or one that is not overlapping others on the graph.
Detailed info about Wireless Interference can be found in this post.
But if it's working, and since your guests are already there, maybe just let things be.![]()

currently showing 28, with 162 remaining, however, that includes inactive devices and I believe duplicates where the DHCP lease has expired.
1 DVR
2 Receivers
1 PC
1 Laptop
1 Mac
1 AppleTV (1st Gen)
2 iPod Touch
2 iPhone 4s
1 Wii
1 Canon Printer
1 Toshiba Thrive tablet
1 LG TV
1 LG BD Player
--------------------------------
16
However, lately I am having issues with the wireless devices. They will show up as connected but cannot get online and on the laptop I can see that it shows 'limited connectivity'. It seems to be an issue with IP allocation. When I turn off the RG and turn back on, it usually works. Has anyone else seen this ?

Yeah, Sony eBook junk gift for my wife that freezes/locks. On the way back to a Best Buy store right now! ![]()
Will probably exchange for Kindle, Kindle Fire or Nook.
Couple other devices are just temp like HP Laptop and Netgear Dual-Band Router to be installed at my mom's tomorrow.
Good point about knowing the number of devices so as to check for unapproved access/wi-fi connections. ![]()

And hopefully your network is locked down so you won't see any unknown extras.

Yeah, believe it's pretty secure and anybody who wants to gain network access has to ask me for the RG code. I'm starting to charge the visiting family members for that magic number! ![]()
I'm not sure how close you have to be to gain access to the network anyway through the RG. I would think 900' to the road and 1,000' to the nearest house would be too far. But guess you never know. ![]()

Remember the time an ATT tech was working on a problem, and decided he'd go to his truck in the street and look at my RG stats? He couldn't get in and came back to ask if I changed the default password, duh! Was NOT happy about that little incident. I know they can override and see our stats when we call in, but suppose they can do the same at a prem. visit if one knows how.

Believe I do remember that incident and not good. Heck, if the power company here can send a satellite signal through my thick metal roof, and down 3 floors to the basement to shut the hot water tank off during high power grid usage, anything's possible.

txcrude,
Also in Tx and having exactly same problem due to everyone home for holidays. 29 allocated devices w 161 remaining available. Already at 400mW power and played with changing channels to no benefit. Did you find a solution or work around?
FWIW, I note that Tech support was completely unhelpful - spent a lot of time walking through their worthless script getting nowhere.
