I'm a novice (at best) when it comes to computers. I have AT&Ts 2wire at home.
I have Cisco VPN software on my work laptop that I use to remote into a client when I am in the office. I then connect either to a terminal server or a virtual machine, both via Remote Desktop.
When I try this from home, after I click on the icon for the vpn the software seems to get stuck somewhere between opening up and giving me a login screen. The vpn icon appears in the tray at the bottom of the screen, but the login window never pops up.
I am using Windows 7.
Thanks in advance for any assistance provided.

Out of the box, there should be no problem with just connecting to VPN. Now of course, some have opened ports in the Firewall Pinhole settings, which does also work for those certain situations.
"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

I Telework once a week.
Are you connecting to your 2Wire via wireless or via ethernet?
I connect via wireless, straight to the 2Wire, no additional routers. Can you get into websites via your work PC, before you try the VPN? I guess that what I'm getting at, is that you need to first ensure that you are connected to the 2Wire. If you aren't, your VPN will never work.

I am connected to the 2Wire. I tried both wireless and ethernet. No problems getting to internet/websites on work PC at home. Just getting a VPN software to get all the way to a login screen.

In this case, you may want to call your work help desk.
They may have you delete some software, so there will be a fresh software load when you try to connect.
If you could not get to websites on the work PC at home, I'd guess that is an AT&T issue but since you can, I'd say it is a PC issue.
FWIW, my help desk recommends logging into the VPN from work, to get the latest sw load.
