First night with U-Verse..Obviously turned off the receivers by pressing power (various lights still stay on but assume thats normal etc)..But is their any circumstance that the "Residential Gateway" need to be unplugged/turned off etc???..Our tech has our receiver, home phone, television, battery, residential gateway all plugged into one power strip..Worried about possible overload/overheating and wondering if anything besides the receiver needs to be ever shut off?? Thanks

You shoudlnt have a problem with the gateway being on 24-7. You'll want to keep it on so you can browse the internet, recieve phone calls, and record TV at all times. The amount of amperage that the gateway and your other various hardware is pulling shouldn't be enough to overload the circuit breaker. If it is then your breaker or power strip should trip and you'll have to reset one or the other.
If you're having issues with your TV/phone/internet is the only time I would reccomend power cycling your gateway, otherwise leave it plugged in and running.

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

Also....every so often....during the wee hours....AT&T sends updates down the line for both STB's and RG's. If they are completely powered down they would not be able to receive these updates. Often the company even triggers the equipment to perform reboots....which can be necessary after some updates are installed.

Mine has been on since Oct 2009, without interruption.
There have been a few power outages, but the battery backup was adequate for those.
