I need to move my modem to the other end of my living room. Living room is 30' long. I need a cable to go from the wall jack to the new location at the oposite end of the room. Going under the floor so will need 40' of 50' of cable with RJ11 connectors. I only have Uverse TV, not internet or phone. Can I use just straight thru cat 5 cable with and RJ11 connector on both ends? Or do I need a special cable with special pin outs? If I do need a special cable with special connector pin out, any idea where to get one?
Install told be just a straight thru cat 5 with RJ11 connectors is all I need, but I just want to make sure before I go and buy something, string it and the find out it doesn't work.
I'd appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Rick

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

So then I'm safe in buying a 50' 5e cable from the link you posted with the RJ11 connectors pre-assembled? Buy that and I'm good to go, right?

The reason I want to do that is because the 2wire modem is too far away from my room. I want to cut the wire that goes from the box outside to modem. The box outside is sealed, and the wire to the modem is split and one of the wires is connected to the battery. I was very upset that they did this and I regret not being there to direct traffic. I don't know any way.![]()

Crestguy- Why not just leave it "too long"?? Or, cut it and put a new end on it. Not a splice.

Why not just go buy a standard 6p4c telephone cable that already has the rj11 ends on it, using cat5 is a waste of cable.
