She even went the the complete order for 3. I wanted to see what the total cost would be. Install is for Thursday, so I'll see and report back.
When I called at&t, I was also told I could install up to 7 Xboxes at once. If all your Xboxes are hooked up to Ethernet, hopefully they will only make you purchase one kit.
I look forward to getting your feedback later in the week.

Yeah, I was hoping that the one I have on the RG would not need the kit but was told I would still need it. I think I will wait until the installer is here to find out the truth. Like everyone else, I don't see the need of the kit for the rg connected Xbox, but I will watch closely, and I will ask for all my equipment. Cause I was told, if you have your own kit, then you don't need to buy one. So, we will see. The HPNA adapter is the Motorola one, have not look for it online yet.

Whomever told you you need a kit for the Xbox directly connected to the RG assumed that and probably isn't familure with how this all works. I remember reading earlier that at&t reps were telling people that there would still be a $7 monthy charge, obviously another assumption on there part.
Granted many people are going to need the HPNA bridge, but you can buy the remote on your own for $20. The only part of the kit that can't be purchased on its own is the instalation CD, and you can just use one to install on all three of your systems.
Hopefully your Tech will be a reasonable person when it comes to what you need (and don't need) for your particular installation.
I checked the price on HPNA bridges on Google and they aparently average about $70, making at&t's kit a reasonable buy, if you need all the parts...

I have been doing some more digging around for you guys. The $99 charge covers 3 items:
1. Xbox Remote Control
2. HPNA Adapter
3. License Fee for the STB Client
At this time only one Xbox per account is supported. In phase 2 multiple Xbox's will be supported, however, they will each require a kit.

If you have a Harmony remote and an Ethernet wired xbox that will be like paying a $99 license fee.
That's just ... stupid. There really needs to be a client only option.

When the techinician came over to install it on my Xbox he stated that the only thing I would get was the HPNA bridge and the software installed on my XBox. I read the users guide that he had with him but he insisted that I was not to keep that or the installation disc or get a remote, even though the users guide stated that I should be keeping that guide, the disc, and the Xbox remote.
Was the tech wrong and should I be making a call to Customer Service about this?

Any idea why at&t reps are telling customers that they can install more than one Xbox?

You definately should call. From what I heard you won't be able to keep the HPNA bridge if you don't need it. Unless you didn't have to buy the kit, you should definately be able to keep the remote and CD because you paid for it. You really need that install CD if something happens to your hard drive and you need to reinstall the application, as stated in the user manual...

Working on that one right now. There could be some confusion going on and I have notified the product team that is responsible for the Xbox program to let them check into it.

Not to contradict what you said, but I do remember the at&t rep I talk to a week ago, put me on hold to talk to the Xbox product team, and verified that I could install more than one Xbox at my home.

As fast as things change with products I am wanting to double check. I was told yesterday that it was only supposed to be one per home until phase 2, which is soon. It's possible the timeline was moved or some coding was released to allow more than one that wasn't supposed to go in yet, so I am wanting to double check and make sure.

Thanks for all the info! You are being a real help and we appreciate you and understand that you need to walk a fine line.
Have you passed along our wishes to be able to get a self-install kit of just the CD since most of us have remotes and ethernet? I'm assuming the install is something like put cd into the drive, install the app, call the tech and read the number on the box to associate the box with the account, right?

Hello,
Please forgive me if I missed it, I did a search looking for HTPC and did not find my answer.
Does anyone know if AT&T plans on allowing HTPC with windows media center to be used as a set top like the xbox 360. The 360 is nothing, but an extender and a HTPC can be used the same or even more like a DVR.
Thank you,
David

No, at&t has not announced plans to allow a Media Center PC to work with U-verse and act as additional DVR storage. That option is available, but I don't think at&t will take advantage of it.
I like this option even better because it can support Xbox 360s as extenders that you can provision yourself, has enhanced programming and movie guide over U-verse, and can support at least one wireless connection to an Xbox 360...

How much does it cost to have 4 HD DVR's?
When DirecTV can use an Xbox 360 as set top box, get back with us.
What exactly will the advantage be? Have a 2TB external drive on each of DVR's
I think that TG37 was being mildly sarcastic. I would love to pay $14.97 and be able to record streams on all four of those HD DVR's (8, at least).
With 4 DVR;s you can record 8 different HD shows (2 tuners per DVR), again subtract 1 recording from any live channel you want to watch. Using a SWM-16 switch you can have 32 tuners. Prefer the increase of tuners for recording over the novelty of having my x-box 360 able to be on the system.

It looks like in preparation for Phase 2 some of the coding was released early to allow multiple Xboxs. The official release has not happened yet, but it will be very soon.
I have passed along the concerns about not needing a remote or HPNA adapter and the team is looking into that now.
Also, for the person that the tech did not leave behind the CD or the Remote please contact Customer Care and they will send you one. The tech was supposed to leave that behind for you. The product team is working with the techs now to ensure everyone is on the same page.

txnroger:
Could you verify if there an option so that when you turn on the Xbox 360, it immediately launches the U-verse client, after it boots up?
There should be an option for if you follow this sequence:
Xbox Dashboard>My Xbox>System Settings>Console Settings>Startup and Shutdown>Startup
Thanks...

Not installed until this afternoon, but when looking at my order, I see a receiver install fee of $55, a change fee of $5, and I see an Xbox network integration fee. There is no charge for that yet. Just a heads up for those who are thinking about it for latter.

Thank you for the response. It's a shame really... I see so many company's releasing their hardware box or something for an console game system. The HTPC in mho is the best choice, a lot more flexible. Oh well.. Not going to buy a 360 just for a stb.
BTW what does phase 2 include other than multiple 360's.

I will check and let you know. I asked that when they did my install and was told no, but will pass along your suggestion and see if they can help with that. It sounds like it would be a good idea to have as an option for a future release that way a customer can choose to either have it boot to STB mode or regular mode. Very good idea! ![]()

Well, I've got a tech coming out tomorrow to replace my DVR (it has died 3 times, twice in the last 2 weeks or so) and I wonder if I should try and get this Xbox thing set up while they're out here. Would that save me the truck roll fee?

Logical_Dolphin, I was told that this is a future enhancement that will be coming out, however, in the meantime you can set the Xbox up to startup with the U-verse app by default. I will get the instructions on how to do that and post it here.

Installer showed up on time, with no equipment. Asked me if they had sent me the CD. Said he'd be back in 30 minutes after calling his boss. I made sure to remind him that I'm suppose to get HPNA adapter, remote and CD. Awsome truck roll.

ayoj4s, I am so sorry this happened. I will let the team know what happened so they can address the issue. It sounds like there was some confusion on where the kit would be coming from and we need to get that cleared up. Thank you for letting us know and again I apologize that this happened.

He came back and got things squared away. He did leave all of the equipment. Question is, why the charge for the kit. I placed the disc in my 360 connected to the RG and ran the software. It just states that the client is not provisioned. I trully do not see the purpose in paying another $99 to call Uverse CS and have them provision my Xbox. Really guys. For the second one, I dont need the HPNA adapter or the remote. Dont even need a second CD. But they want another $99.
Either way, the install took like 5 minutes. Connected the HPNA adapter, ran the software, good to go. Everything is the same, no loss of speed or quality.
