Thanks for posting that link. Nothing really new in there other than the media sharing tidbit you mentioned.
Still hoping that they work out some kind of cheap self-install for people that really only need the CD.

I was told last week by one of their peeps that answer posts on facebook that the kit would be mailed.
EDIT: Of course, who knows if they gave correct info or not

See the link below from the U-verse Facebook page. The same question was asked and answered yesterday.
AT&T U-verse Hey Aaron - Donnie is correct. If you'd like to have this service as an existing customer, you are welcome to call and order it for $99. Then, when your install date arrives a tech will bring out the kit and get it all set up for you.

Actually that was me who posted that question! I was just testing what their responce might be.
While it is probably true that the techs deliver the kit, the fact that someone asked the same question a week ago and got a different response, still tells me that there is alot of mis-information out there at at&t.

The U-verse techs, who will actually do the installs, have made it clear on the uverseusers forum that they have the kits and will deliver them during the installs. The kits are not mailed.
I read most of the posts on the U-verse Facebook page. I don't recall seeing a previous response from AT&T that the kits would be mailed.

It was a phone call from Mike T ([text removed for privacy]) made in reply to my post on FB the other week (Oct 12th), it wasn't posted on facebook.

No XBox 360 here. I did read that you have to have an XBox Live Account (even a free one). If you are consider buying a used XBox 360, it is my understanding that many consoles have been blocked by Microsoft forever, from having an XBox live account, due to modding. I have heard that these functioning but blocked consoles have been dumped on the used market. These may not work with UV, since you have to have a XBox Live Account.
If I bought an XBox 360, it would cost me $154 to get it connected?
It would take 22 months to break even saving $7 on an STB, if I added the XBox (as a new STB). Wow! Is my math right?

I highly doubt the ATTs intent of offering this feature was to offer an alternative to the $7 STB charge. For me, I want a total multimedia solutions that includes TV, DVD, OTA (via WMC Extender) Netflix, HULU, ECT. To me, having that option is totally worth the price they asking for (although I do think its a bit pricey)

I personally also like the concept, the problem is the cost for the KIT, of which the only item I need in the kit is the CD. I am fine with the truck roll fee and a modest price for the CD, but everything else for me will sit in the drawer unused. So if they offered just the CD and Truck roll fee I would probably get it, other wise 22 months is too long to recover the initial cost. ![]()

I called at&t today, just to get information about this deal, and I was told I could get multiple xboxes installed at the same time. The rep said he confirmed it by doing a "simulation order" on my account. He also confirmed it with the "Xbox team" that multiple Xboxes could be installed.
However, the rep I talked to said that the "Xbox team" said I would have to buy a kit for each Xbox, because of some cabling and remotes that I would need. I think there was some miscommunication on that issue, because I am sure I just need one installation CD, so I should just need to buy one kit. What I am still not sure about is if I am going to be forced to buy a $99 kit per Xbox if I need it or not.
I'm going to check back in a few weeks and see if the answers have changed, because it is still the early days and I don't have full confidence in those answers...

Keep in mind that you will need an Xbox Live Gold account ($60/year) to access Netflix and Hulu Plus on your Xbox 360. You will be able to access the same content without paying anything extra if you have a PS3...

I do understand that I would have an XBox 360 and its media solutions and game play, too. I think, as you noted, we are being overcharged for the privilege of adding UV to the XBox. EDIT - And I think that AT&T IS trying to recoup the cost of developing the app and the possible STB lease ($7) fees that they might be losing by overpricing the $99 kit.

I know people who used to work for MS on the xbox team. ATT didn't develop the app, it was developed mainly by MS a few years ago, ATT is just slow to roll it out.

For a while I thought the U-verse app was going to be available to download on Xbox Live on 11/7/2010, that is the same day that Kinect launches and the Xbox's GUI gets a complete makeover...

Oops, I ment to say it was in the launch window of the Kinect and the new interface, I thought there was a connection there.
I am sure that you cannot download the App, otherwise there wouldn't be any reason for some to buy the Xbox kit.
I would be neat if you could controll the Uverse App using the Kinect interface...

Was just online changing stuff on my account and there was a note that popped up on the additional receiver screen about xbox360 but no way to select an option for it. Said something about talking to the tech on your install. Of course it mentioned the $99 dollar ripoff fee as well.

You need to call the 800 number to set up anything related to the Xbox, from what I hear not all the sales people are up to date on this right now. It is probably best to wait a few weeks, so everyone is up to speed...

I am not sure about the U-verse app, being that it's just Microsoft Mediaroom software, and therefore not part of the media features of the Xbox, but I have heard something that Microsoft plans or has implemented a Kinect based feature that allows you to play, rewind, fast forward, pause, and stop DVDs, rentals, and downloads by using Kinect
The way I heard it though, instead of motioning for the given commands, you are supposed to say it out loud, then the Kinect feature is supposed to "hear" you and do the given command, like speech recognition, so if you wanted to pause a movie, you would just say "pause" loud, clear, and slow (like any other speech recognition) and it will pause, then say "play" to resume

Does anybody actually have the Uverse service installed on their Xbox? The tech came out to my house and told me that it was not available in my area (NE Kansas) until mid- November. I do have Uverse by the way.

That is how it works, but I doubt that it works for the Uverse App since it is simply trying to emulate an extra STB...

I am anxiously awaiting someone to report in myself. I am going to wait until about mid-November myself, simply because many of my questions should be addressed by then...

If that is so, why is at&t advertising it now on the U-verse website?

That would be a question for AT&T.. It hasn't changed, this date has been well known since news started leaking. The date of this very thread has 11/7/10 in it!

That date was based on the Engadget article, apparently plans have changed...
at&t's own press release states that the date is October 15th: http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=18642&cdvn=n
It wouldn't make any sense for at&t to put up the offer on this website if it weren't available to install now:

Apparently AT&T press release is and has been incorrect.. Nothing has changed. On October 7th when Engadget leaked the news it said November 7th. The press release from AT&T on the 11th is simply incorrect as again, nothing has changed. I had a U-Verse install yesterday and had the date confirmed. So nobody can tell you why AT&T is advertising this upcoming feature.. does it matter? One more time for good measure, the launch is officially November 7th 2010.
