The only problem that I have, is that you still need to have the reciever. Doesn't do much good if you're trying to hide the reciever and/or cables for a tv that is mounted on a wall. Still better than the Direct TV installation where the cables were run along the baseboards. Best served for apartments, IMO.

In that situation, I would say skip the wireless STB and go with something like this: http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=4318
or these:http://www.whdi.org/Products

The way the service providers are competing for subs I wouldn't be suprised if that was the next feature that gets offered.

I'd say it's a safe bet that the wireless Cisco's are available in all markets (as texasguy37 stated).
I saw a commercial about it earlier tonight, black Cisco box, and they wouldn't be advertising it in my city if it wasn't available. And we get (just about) everything last, LOL!
I couldn't find the commercial I saw, but they're touting it as a great alternative for people who want to move a TV outdoors to the patio.
Check out the COMMENTS in this video, many of what have already been discussed in this thread. With my wi-fi problems, I'll stay put with wired for now. ![]()

Caught the same ad on Detroit's FOX 2 news yesterday afternoon ... followed soon after by a Comcast ad (hehehe).
A couple weeks ago, when the Detroit Lions were playing on MNF, local WXYZ ran a story on a guy doing a neighborhood football party out on his driveway with a HUGE 96-inch or larger screen (not a projection). Somehow I don't think he'd be running Uverse on a wireless STB for his neighbors ... the picture looked just a BIT too sharp. ![]()

So.. an update.. I got the 2 boxes and 1 adapter... after tech told me there would have to be 2 adapters.. anyway, I hooked everything up, both boxes get signal from the ONE adpater. So far so good...until: message come up on each screen from both boxes indicating that the 'client is not provisioned' So, I called tech support and I am informed that when the order was placed they had indicated the activation time was tomorrow at 8pm?? So, I have to wait apparently to see if they work.

I see no reason why they can't provision immediately over the phone (had to do that recently w/wired). Try calling back and asking for a Tier 2 rep.
It took them two days to re-provision one of my STBs when it mysteriously got de-provisioned, and then there was the three day provisioning fiasco ( http://forums.att.com/t5/Receivers/Update-on-Cisco![]()

Could it be, back to one of my questions of Moto <----> Cisco compatability, that there has to be something "additional" done to dropping a Cisco box in a Moto territory? According to the TS person I talked to last week, it was very clear, "Oh, no ... the provisioning is all in place, won't have problems, piece of cake, just plug-and-play." Hmmmm .... I'm feeling some smoke coming up my behind ...
In all of my experiences with swapping out STBs with Comcast -- both times I had to do that, I went to the local customer service office and got the equipment myself -- after I got them home, I still had to call in order for them to "hit" them, and within minutes, up and running. Even when they went to their "digital transition", and I installed the ship-to-customer DTAs for a few people, I still had to call in to "activate" them. BUT, while I'm on the phone, they came up.
If you call in and upgrade from U300 to U450, a couple computer clicks, and *voila* ... all the channels up. So the capabilities are there.
So much for the glory of "self-install". What's the point of charging that $49, again, if a truck roll is $55?

I forgot about that, ComputerJoe! And Comso. ![]()
But since they're sending out equipment directly to customers now, I still say there's no reason they can't provision over the phone...something sounds amiss.
When my last replacement DVR arrived, it acted like an STB. Nothing in the instructions said I needed to call in for provisioning and there were no error messages (other than cannot record, cannot pause live TV). When I called Tier 2, that's when I found out it DID need remote provisioning. ![]()

OK, so update on teh Wireless receivers situation. Even though they were schedueld to work last night at 8pm, I called and got them to activate both boxes for me.
I have to say so far, I am impressed. They actually work a lot better than the wired boxes I had. I notice these wireless boxes are Cisco, not sure if that is why. I had the Motorola 1200 boxes before. They respond immediately from the remote which is a nice change of pace and menus come up quickly and no sound issues as of yet. The HDMI even works a lot better (there was a delay when powering up TV for picture to come in from old box).
So, hopefully there will not be any issues and I can finally stop thinking about AT&T!

I should get one this monday. I have a workin coax right below my TV. I would prefer to use the coax like my other sets. Is there a way to make this box wired? I see one rj45 and one coax connector but the coax I believe says "to tv" in the pics I've seen. I also wonder if I will be able to use the rj45 on the back of the STB for an internet connection like I do with my coaxed STBs?

There isn't a coax input only output on the unit. Connecting the rj45 may work. I know they worked on the wired units and work as output (had my blu-ray player attached to it).

Potential new customer here. I would like to have u-verse tv installed with a total of two boxes (two different rooms) I would like the wireless capability. Do I have to have at least one of the boxes wired (DVR), plus the one wireless receiver? Wanted to make sure before I ordered the service. It doesn't even let you add the wireless option, on the sign up page, just says to tell the technician. I also currently have a cable provider already installed in my house. I'm keeping them and installing this in addition to the local cable company. Will they install a new line to the rooms I need, or will everything be wireless? Thanks for the help!!!

The DVR is not a wireless device. Only Non-DVR boxes can be wireless.

I tested it. The rj45 works like the wired boxes. You have have network access & internet access if you connect something to it.

I'm guessing you can't get inside the VEN401 wireless access point from a web page, and that it is designed to be all hooked up the EZ push button way. No need to, just would like to see what it looks like inside and curious also if you could connect other wireless devices to this unit if you could find out the wireless password. My guess is AT&T wants to keep it simple and secret so we don't mess anything up.

Turns out the WPA password is on the bottom of the wireless access point. However I don't have any 5ghz devices to see if I can connect to it, let alone even see the signal. Oh well, don't really need it, was just curious.
