I've had the same issue with my belkin unit. However, mine is 4 years old and AT&T will not replace the unit without me paying for it. The belkin unit seems to turn off when I play a video or start something that has a lot of data coming in. Don't know why that would matter, but that's when the unit shuts off. I've replaced the RG unit and the battery in the battery backup unit, so the only thing left is the battery backup unit itself. I work out of the house and rely on AT&T for my phone and internet. When it goes out, it's annoying to have to call back my customer and apologize to them that I lost the call. I'm thinking of switching carriers at this time. It's AT&T's equipment and they won't fix the problem.

It's not AT&T's equipment... it's Belkin's. Contact Belkin at 866-539-5791, or visit their Web site at www.belkin.com/gatewaybattery. There is a 3-year warranty.

Curious what lights are showing on the front of your BBU and what happens when you do a self test? Here's the manual explaining the test.
