I have the triple play service, and overall very happy with it. But during a recent power failure, when the battery backup kicked in, I could not use the phone. I don't need internet or TV during a power outage, but wanted the phone to work. I checked all the indicator lights and the phone I was using was POTS, not a cordless. I was told the battery backup would keep the phone working for awhile. What gives?

Even then, POTS would not work if a line is down between your house & the CO. Also keep in mind that even though you do not have a cordless phone, if it has an answering machine, most of those phones will not work without power going to them, due to how the manufacturer has designed them to work.

I periodically unplug the battery backup to the HG to test the battery condition. Try that when there is no outage and see if your POTS phone works.

I think you missed the point of the queston, and I'm sorry if I confused the issue. All I mean is that I had a corded phone hooked up, so a power hit impacting cordless handsets was not the issue. But the power was out, the battery backup worked, the gateway was all green and I had no phone service. The only reason I even want the battery backup is for phone service during a power outage. I won't be using the PC or the TVs.

If you have the VoIP phone service you should have been able to use your phone. VoIP service gets it's dial tone from the RG. If your phone service resumed after the power was restored to your home and you do have VoIP service then something could be wrong with your RG. I suggest you call TS and ask a CSR to run a test on your RG.

OK, good point. but according to your statement "...there could have been damage to the wires, or the VRad was down due to no power, and there could have been damage to the lines somewhere from your house to it or the Central Office...." If any of those events had happened, would the RG have all greens? It did.
