iPhone Visual voicemail

Today I noticed iPhone voicemail is now Visual voicemail and not the standard version. Visual voicemail has been only available with contract phone up until now. This must have changed in the last few days. Unfortunately it doesn't work. No voicemails can be retrieved using this version. Can someone else who has an iPhone check to see what voicemail setup they have?

Are you saying you had visual voicemail on you iPhone but on a pre-paid AT&T (gophone) pre-paid plan?

Yes I did for about a day or so. It was flakey and didn't work right then poof, it was gone.

That's weird... I thought you had to be provisioned for it? What did you do? Did you just pop in the gophone sim and it worked? I do not understand why AT&T has to be so greedy, they would make $$ of their data plan if they just included this feature FREE with the purchase of the data plan; it would be a win-win situation, for both the customer and AT&T. Come on AT&T, "Rethink Possible"!
