I am travelleling for a a few months within Europe and therefore replaced my ATT Wireless account by a Prepaid service so that I have basic US coverage here until I return. Now, as I am about to return to the US just for a few days, I wanted to test my Prepaid SIM (bought 6 moths ago) in my current phone, so that I can use it in the US to avoid roaming charges and I am not getting any access to the local network. The phone is unlocked and capable to work with other SIM cards.
On my journey to figure out what is wrong, I just realized that ATT apparently completely reworked their customer portals which makes it impossible for me now to actually contact a human being about prepaid services while I am in country other than the US.
My prepaid wireless number is not accepted to register nor utilize any of the online support features. I was asked various times to register one one web site after another including this forum but then all comes together to register for a new single customer account ID. What nobody obviously thought of is that I can only use any of these services, if link at least one ATT service account to my profile. Unfortunately, that is not possible since my only current accont (prepaid wireless) has been disabled (for any reason)![]()
Moreover, there is no general email address I could send this problem to.
Using the toll free phone service of ATT for prepaid service leads nowhere as it asks me to enter my wireless number which seems not to work anymore nor is recognized and there is no option ot speak to a representative.
Other ATT wireless phone support, in fact, just any phone support does not accept my issue because it is a prepaid service and I am supposed to call another phone number or they connect me getting back to the answering maschine to enter my wireless number and so on...
In a forum, I read about the option to post issues on ATTs Twitter or Facebook page but I do not use Twitter nor Facebook and I really do not want to register to just another service simply to get help.
I really wonder what happened to my prepaid account and the credit I put on the card. Apparently, the only way to talk to someone is to visit an ATT store but there isn't any outside of the US.
Anyone, any suggestions to get help while outside of the US? Again, no agent on any of the toll-free phone numbers was able to help (at least that is what they told me) and online help does not work either because at least one active account is needed.

a) I am not living in the US right now
b) I purchased a prepaid SIM about 6 months ago in the US from ATT
c) I used that SIM once and added credit of a total that would guarantee 12 month activation according to ATT policy back then
d) I am returning to the US in 3 weeks and installed the prepaid SIM into my phone for test purposes
e) The phone shows No Network although I used that SIM in my current current country before without issues
f) ATT apparently deactivated my prepaid SIM without notice.
g) I am not getting any support from any ATT team over the phone as those support systems either transfer me to prepaid which lead to a death end or do not allow me to register if my account is inactive.
h) After a few hours trying to find a way to get someone from ATT who can help, it appears that the only choice I have is to wait until I return to the US and talk to someone at a store and hope fully get decent support.
i) I am not interested in coverage maps
j) I am posting this now into this forum as a last resort and I am getting two, no offense, unrelated replies to the question if there is any chance I can get hold of someone within ATT customer service or support that shows some interest and ownership to get this sorted before I return to the US but I guess that is too much to ask. Sorry for the tone but this all is really frustrating and leaves the impression of ATT actively trying to avoid any effort supporting their customer even if it is just a prepaid service, I was customer for many years. A disappointing experience.

That may be accidental roaming in Europe. With an unlocked phone there can be surprises. ![]()
