I wanted to know whether I can buy a micro SIM card for my iPAD2 while still abroad (say from eBay), have it activated over the Web, and then buy a data only package?
I won't need voice/texts with my Ipad, just data.
I'll be 1 wk in the states and I expect I'll need about 1GB of data.
I've been reading about MVNOs that use AT&Ts network, couldn't find suitable packages.
My other alternative would be to buy the SIM in JFK airport, where I'll be in transit from my international flight to my US destination.
Is there an AT&T store in the transit area?

No AT&T store inside JFK airport.
Getting AT&T micro sim online (ebay) may not work ,some seller sold DIY micro sim with sim cutter
Even if the sim work, you can try and active your data plan on your IPad,it only cost US$20 plus state sales tax for 1 GB .
But you need an USA address and USA credit card to active any plan!! Good Luck!!

Get your data service in person at an at&t store as you will not be able to subscribe to the data service from abroad.

I purchased an iPad micro sim from Amazon.
When I arrived in the US (FL) I inserted the micro SIM ad somehow succeeded in activating it (I received an 813 number).
However, no matter what I tried, I wasn't able to purchase a one-time (not monthly) data plan. Further, seems that the only acceptable billing addresses must be US-based...
So I took a cab to the ATT shop by University Mall. The guy who received me was not really helpful. He mumbled something about my having followed an incorrect procedure to activate my SIM (said that my phone number showed that, but he did not explain further). He provided me a new micro SIM card and sent me to the corner of the store, to a bank of phones, in order to make a call to support.
After about 15 calls that were cut off in the middle or did not allow me to do what I wanted (to activate the SIM on my iPad2 and purchase a one tine PAYGO data package, just as in the rest if the world).
I'd really appreciate your help on how to do this online rather than by phone with ATT support.
