Have you tried calling cutomer service? When I first recieved my phone, it would not activate due to a problem with a ported number. None of the online stuff or automated phone stuff worked. Once I got a live CS rep on the phone, the issue was taken care of. That's probably your best bet.

I've called customer service but they always only redirect me to the GoPhone directory. I've been trying to get to speak to a real representative, even calling other At&t numbers, but I just keep getting a run around.

Yeah, it's actually sort of tough to get a cs rep on the phone when you have a gophone. The key (at least, what worked for me) was to first call the regular at&t customer service number. Then, when they ask for your phone number, I did NOT enter it, because then they just bounce you to the gophone number. Instead, I think I just kept hitting "0" or something like that until I got a live rep.
