Early Phone Upgrade?

Currently, I am in a two year contract with AT&T and it ends in November, giving me the option to upgrade and sign a new contract, its only 3 1/2 months away and I heard several comments about how if your in the 18-20 month range on your contract you might be able to upgrade early, I was wondering if this was true?
(I currently have an iPhone, did not like it at all, preferred my old Samsung, and wish to upgrade to a Galaxy Note with another 2 year contract if that affects anything.)

What you have heard is accurate but each account is slightly different due to the amount spent on each line. Follow the above advice to find out your specific eligiblity.
