Discounted pricing on upgrade to iPhone 5?

I have had a Blackberry Bold 9700 since over two years ago. I checked online and by email with customer service, and was told because I have had my phone for more than two years, I am eligible for an upgrade at a discounted price. However, when I check online, it tells me the upgrade to an iphone 5 would cost $199.99 plus a $36 upgrade fee for a 2 year contract, which is $36 more than it would cost to get a new phone with a 2 year contract. Am I misunderstanding something or where should I call to get an upgrade at a discounted price?

that is the discounted pirce, you get it at the same price as a new customer. Retail price of the phone is 649 for the 16GB

The new customer price is the best that a current customer will get on the phone. The $36 is an upgrade fee. New customers don't have to pay it since they aren't upgrading. A number of people has said that have gotten AT&T to waive the upgrade fee, though.

Also, a new customer would pay a $36 activation fee, so the cost would be the same.

Ah, didn't know that.  So AT&T makes everyone pay.

Some have mentioned they got the upgrade fees waived. A friend of mine has multiple lines, and also a uverse bundle. His bill is close to 500 each month and he pretty much gets whatever fees waived that he wants.

I did tyhe ATT Online Preorder for an iPhone 5 Upgrade. 2 Year Contract extension but a full retail $399 price . . . ? Where is the Upgrade if I pay Retail AND NEW 2 year Contract???

You got an upgrade price. No iPhone 5 goes for $399 full retail. I'm assuming that's the 64GB phone and full retail on that is $849.
