Anyone able to talk to ATT and get the early upgrade fee of $250 waived? I called customer service about 3 times. No luck at all.

Spoke myself with 3 different people.
I've been an AT&T customer for 14 years now hailing back to PacBell Pcs. I've had every iphone excpet the 3g and never been charged an upgrade fee. Like many other people I've upgraded the phones because of a promise of the phone having better reception (promises were made by Apple). AT&T network in San Francisco is the WORST. While the 4s has honestly made it liveable, if it weren't for the fact that I paid for a 3G MicroCell I wouldn't have service, right in the middle of the city. Unfortunately many of my phonecalls start with F&!CING AT&T service
. after I drop the call numerous times.
I have 4 Ulimited lines for myself and my employyes along with 10 landlines for my business from AT&T. I figured that might buy me a little love with them, but I guess not. I was told a tale (the kind that smelly king falls out of the rear end of a male cow) that Apple was the one setting the upgrade fees (denied by Apple employee today, saying its a carrier deal).
Verizon's service in San Francisco is WAY WAY better, and I expect many people to jump ship. Perhaps this is what AT&T wants so that their service will be better. I think I'm going to just buy the completely unlocked version this time on Verizon, and say screw it to renewing contracts from this point on. Anyway when the 5s or 6 comes out the resale on the unlocked version will be much better.
Either way however this does not bode well for AT&T in the long run. There are going to be many many people who have been used to what AT&T has done in the past being upset over this.
Just my .02

Yea I know but I've read many posts by ppl who ordered the iphone and got either the $250 waived, or got credit in their account. I've been a customer for 10 yrs now the least would be to do that for a loyal customer.

I got the fee waived. I had an early iphone upgrade from At&t. After live chatting over 7 reps, I found one. She was really nice, probably the best customer service i've ever recieved from At&t. She talked to her manager, and got them to change my upgrade date, and give me the full upgrade date, if i ordered today. So I ordered my iphone 4s, and it should come in by next saturday. I couldn't be more thrilled![]()

My upgrade fee was waived and my device bumped it up 45 days before my date. I was slated to get an upgrade on 11.19 but i called on 10.10 and the first rep said WE can't do that, however, I can patch you into someone who might be able to help.
She knew what she was doing and got me to the correct people who told me they could do an upgrade at the full discount 45days prior to the date. He has to have is supervisor approve it but after that it was no problem.
They did charge me the 227 bucks right away but they said they will ALSO waive the activation fee as a one time curtosy.
I gave the Rep the best feedback i have ever given anyone. He was spot on and helped me out.
I did not even ask for the activation fee waived he just gave it to me. ATT is such a great company

I ALMOST did. I wanted to get the 4s and the lady said she could waive the fee for any other phone than an iPhone. She also said if I were a couple months closer to my upgrade date then she could waive it. I am going to keep trying.

But please remember to be nice to the customer service staff, if they can't give you a freebie it isn't their faul.
