(the fist paragraph was posted early in October on APPLE's support pages with the only suggestions being to either change providers or purchase a new device)For the last month or two my iphone 3gs phone started losing signal and not receiving calls. I did all the normal resets like turning off 3g, turning off wifi, turning airplane mode on and off, restarting, resetting network, totally restoring, went to ATT and tried a new sim card. The problems happen everywhere not just a single location. After each attempt the problem seemed to go away, but after a few (3 or 4) calls, texts, or just letting it sit about 3-4 hours the problem returns. The frustration really comes when the signal strength is 3 4 or 5 bars and the phone will not ring when I call it from my land line. On the land line end the phone rings 8-12 times then goes to voicemail. If I leave a voicemail it will not show for 2-3 minutes. RE: texts, they only show up instantly if they are imessages and I am connected to wifi, normal texts are the same as voicemail, they usually show after a few minutes but have had friends show me their phones were they sent messages and they never were delivered.
(new information) To add to the frustration I recently took a cross country trip flying to Denver, CO and then to Portland, OR. My phone worked perfectly in both of these cities. Data, Voice, Texts, iMessages, everything worked perfectly with no changes. When I returned home, I stepped off the plane in Louisville, KY and I was back to the same issues, couldn't make calls, text messages would not send, and data was not working, all of this with full service showing.
I have been a long term customer of ATT and am not on contract. I have never had problems until this started and am considering changing service providers. I have switched to a backup phone just to receive calls and texts but feel that it is unfair that I am not able to use the features and functions that I pay iphone premium package rates for and not having a working device.
