LTE?

I am wondering when we will be getting LTE service in Hampton Roads VA (Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Chesapeake areas).  Sprint, Verizon and others are adding cities by the 10s weekly, and we are styill poking along at 3.5/4G speeds.  Even T-Mobile has LTE here.  So what'sup with this?

AT&T is being aggressive in their rollout but it's nearly impossible to tell when an area will get LTE.  I have heard that it all depends and when the backhaul will be ready.  This makes sense because the towers in my area appear to be upgraded with the LTE panels but we still don't have LTE.  I have noticed HSPA+ speeds improve greatly in recent months so perhaps the backhaul is being activated.  If the area will get LTE it should at least get it by the end of next year.

Also, T-Mobile doesn't have LTE yet.

Lte is up or atleast tower by my house is since just got a new iPad with lte and happily saw the wonderful words LTE instead of 4G. I'm in va beach near 64 so unsure if its up testing or what but it means the area will soon be among the LTE areas for AT&T. I got a speed of 19/13 so faster then the max of 6-7 I get with hspa+. I'd post pic of speed test but don't think the post lets me.

I was in lynnhaven this morning and got 28 down on lte so looks like att will meet their 1st quarter goal of having lte up in the area. A friend said they are getting it on shore dr also. Great to see.

Yeah att has been impressive lately with their lte buildout. They'll still need to tweak things in the next coming months(lte could go off and on temporarily) but the area should be blanketed with lte before too long. Def excellent news.

I just hit a patch of lte in nn by pat hen mall. It wasn't a big patch but looks like peninsula rollout is right around the corner too.

Right on my sis lives on that side of the water , shes leaving Verizon for att in a couple months

Wow. That's blazing fast. Att has definitely improved things in the area. Reception and quality have gone up and now lte. Great to see. Can't remember the last time I had a dropped call its been so long. Excellent work att.

Yeah no doubt they have stepped up service in are area.

Back 2003-2005 I gave ATT a go finding service sketchy drop calls left & right...yeah that was a long time ago but it left a bad taste in my mouth so I went to Sprint. I saved a couple bucs , cdma was a solid , their  data speeds were king in that time frame.

The last 4 years with Sprint was murder....CS terrible , Drop calls , Turtle Data speeds most of the time at 200kbps/90kbps & less.

Making move back to ATT in November was a great choice never been happier with cell service.

That's great to hear. Yeah any of the issues I've had with att in the past are long gone. The service has been great and coverage has expanded a lot the past year or two so now I'm very happy too.

Great read but author is off on ATT joining Verizon & Sprint.

Sprint doesn't truly have LTE alive in Hampton roads just a couple test towers spreading Intermittent signals unlike ATT & Verizon

Yeah a friend left sprint for that reason. He's with att now and was happy with their 3g/4g speeds but now he's super happy about lte.
