I think it will be fine once they fix the issue. If you use LTE data during the late evenings after 1030, it works great and i will be vey happy once it has the same performace during the day. I just do not understand why its taking them so long to fix the isse. You can not tell me with everyone complaining, that ATT thought it was the actual phone that was the problem. Hopefully now that they know there is a problem with the network, they can figure it out. I would reccomend everyone call ATT and file Cases if they have not done so already. If you have already dont that, I would call again...

Add me to the list of disgruntled AT&T customers. I live on the NW side of Houston and have a new Galaxy S3 and the 4G LTE is not just terrible, it is flat-out unusable during the day. Websites and apps constantly hang looking for a data connection whereas about a month ago everything was blazingly fast.
I called AT&T up to see what the deal was and was told that there was a data outage in the area over the past few days and that they had no clue as to when it would be fixed. I told the lady that this has been going on for much longer than a couple of days.
If this isn't remedied by the end of the week, I am giving AT&T another call and demanding that this past months data fees be prorated for another month. Getting the S3 and then having these issues is like having a Ferrari with a governor on it set for 30mph. I'm not paying for data that I didn't, that I couldn't use and I strongly urge you not to either.

Well I will have to say that at least the ATT REPS are aknowledging that there is a problem with the network..Yesterday, they said everything was fine. It is still unacceptable though by any means. They better get this fixed soon.
FYI....they gave me a credit on my data yesterday. They will tell you know but they will do it. This has been going on for almost a month for me now.....
Frustration is horrible...LTE was the biggest reason I switched phones......

I have a S2 Skyrocket, live in the NW area and work downtown. I'm not sure exactly when the data started to act up for me but I remember noticing something about it the week before last.
I thought that it was a Jellybean ROM or modem that I had flashed on to my phone but after flashing many different roms and modems going back to late Gingerbread releases I began to wonder if it was my phone's hardware.
I've confirmed with two of my other friends that are also Skyrocket users that live in the Spring & Tomball areas that their LTE has been a derelict quality for a few weeks now.
As a poster commented earlier, if this is not resolved by Friday I will call and demand that my data use is prorated into another month's bill due to AT&T's lacking of ability to delivered promised LTE service to the Houston area.

Here is a temp fix.. I added a new APN and forced my phone to use 3G. Not time outs, but speeds are slower.
You have to go to Menu-->settings--> Wireless and networks--> mobile networks--> access point names.
then hit the menu button and click add new APN.
put these settings in..
NAME= ATT
APN= wap.cingular
PROXY = not set
Port = 80
Username = WAP@CINGULAR.COM
PASSWORD = CINGULAR1
SERVER = NOT SET
MMSC = http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS PROXY= 80
MCC = 310
MNC = 410
AUTHENTICATION TYPE = not set
APN TYPE = INTERNET + MMS
CLICK MENU SAVE!!!!!!!! make sure the green radio button is highlighted on the att/ wap.cingular
I*'m getting about 6000k down and 700k up, but more important no connectivity time outs.
This is for the Samsung Galaxy Skyrocket or Galaxy S2
I'm sure it will work on other phones too
P.S.
ATT GET THIS FIXED!

Thayt temp fix will not work for the SAMSUNG GALXY S3 without losing connection every 10 minutes and that includes phone connection.
I tried the temp fix with the cingular apn on my phone but I got very irritated with the disconnect service every 10 minutes.
Thanks anyways...perhaps other phones will have better luck with that....
But again, we are paying for LTE...Not 3G...Please get this fixed!!!!!

Well... Data was out again at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM as usual...
When I was at the AT&T store in Sugarland yesterday the manager told me that AT&T should issue a credit for this months data and if they do not, call her personally, and she will issue the credit..... All that is great customer service, I'll give them that but it doesnt make up for crap service.
It's beginning to trouble me though that it seems to be a bandwidth issue rather than a technical issue... given that it's OK at night. AT&T is continuing to sell LTE phones left & right and iCrap 5 comes out soon.... what then when all the Fanboys jump on LTE?

I'm starting to suspect that myself, that AT&T just doesn't want to fess up to the fact that their LTE network is crippled and cannot handle the bandwidth. I think they're just trying to push this off on "data outages" or "cell tower issues" and trying to keep their customers ignorant to the problem so that they will keep buying up LTE phones from them and not Verizon.
I work a 6:30-3:30 shift just outside of the beltway, and very early in the morning, my data works great, just like it should. Then about an hour into my morning, when traffic starts picking up just a bit, I'm plagued with data issues again for the remainder of the day. Then late at night, around 11:00 or 12:00 it starts to work fine again.
I hope that I am wrong, as this problem is only going to grow exponentially more devastating when all the iFanboys get their new iPhone 5.

I travelled around town (and crosstown) in the last few days, from Webster to Humble to Jersey Village to Sugar Land...During daytime, everywhere is slow. Then some time later it works, and suddenly it would drop again...

Alternatively, you can try and just put in
APN: wap.cingular
and do not set nothing else. Leave everything else alone. You won't be able to send MMS, but I don't send pics through texts.
I see that they announced that ATT will be carrying the Iphone 5 ---> LTE <--- They better get their act together fast

I'm going to give it another week. If not, I'm moving my service. I'm going to get hit with a $135 cancellation fee, but Sprint will give me $114 for my phone..
When I call customer service, they go full {word filter evasion}. It seems none of them have a clue what's going on

LTE is still crapped out....
I'm using the 3G APN just as it's shown above and it's working well actually, for phone. MMS, and data at 3-4 mbps...
Switching would mean my whole family with smart phones, all on contract at some level... so It would be a huge pain... and I really want to keep a GSM phone so I guess I will just have to have my patience tested and wait.... I'm willing to bet that it is some sort of infrastructure overhaul going on in preparation for the onsloght of Fanboys.... crossing fingers...
I was at lunch today and a buddy of mine has Verizon LTE. His phone didn't completely cut out like mine but his bandwidth varied anywhere from 500 kbps to 25 mbps so Verizon must be having some peak time bandwidth issues as well.

Maybe we should all go to the service center together and demand tbe problem be resolved. As if it takes this long people. It would be nice to know if they are really working on the issue...
They probably want to keep it under wraps. If it came out that they are having problems here, it would hurt their IPhone 5 sales here.
The Iphone 5 comes to ATT on the 21st. Surely they will have it resolve by then. If not, all those Iphone 3g users that will get the new iphone5 LTE will flip out.
That is my target date to swith carriers if not fixed

It's not a bandwith problem it's a latency problem.. That is why when you are on the speedtest app it will start out downloading fast then stop and then time out
