I"m in KY and my service in my home has gone from good to horrible. I have dropped calls constantly. Two days ago I was on business call and had 15 dropped calls just during that one session and lost a lucrative sale as a result. They are going to "give" me a MIcrocell for a discounted price. I'm thinking my best bet is to pay the fee to end my contract and go with Verizon.

I live in Morgantown, WV and service here is a complete joke. Seeing 4G on my iPhone 4S and not even touching above EDGE speeds here and throughout West Virginia along with the Pittsburgh area which is just up the road from me, I've noticed service has gotten so bad that I cannot connect to network or even send a text. Speeds for data here in Morgantown are barely breaking .30 Mbps. While AT&T's lack of coverage and service continues here Verizon Wireless, who has no native service in Morgantown, will be coming out full force with LTE deployment this week coming right before a major home football game for West Virginia University. US Cellular is also preparing LTE services for end of the year or begining of the year, Ntelos is also in that bandwagon as well. Sprint and AT&T are now in the same boat with horrible data speeds and coverage. According to a press release from Verizon sent to our local paper the LTE coverage will actually be greater than AT&T's poor 3G/fake 4G service. Stretching into parts of neighboring Preston County and connecting to our Pennsylvania neighbors in Uniontown, Waynesburg, and Washington. When will AT&T be improving their fake 4G service to allow me to pull up Safari, use Siri, use weather, use location services, check into FourSquare, or even tweet or post to Facebook? It may be too late because I'll be the owner of an iPhone 5 using LTE services before they even acknowledge how bad their services has gotten.

As a follow up to my post of last week, during the process of deactivating my IPhone and reactivating my old cell phone (which btw - works perfectly INSIDE my apartment, unlike the IPhone), I found out AT&T is slowly updating their network to LTE and if you don't live in a big city area (ie an important area), you're going to have to wait. I live in western ILlinois near the MIssissippi River and on the border with Iowa. The area is called the Quad Cities. Combined both states, there is population of about 300,000 people. However, the whole State always has to compete with Chicago and both the rep at the AT&T Store and the tech on the phone said Chicago and the area surrounding it is a priority so the rest of us have to wait to get the LTE upgrade. I was told AT&T's whole network SHOULD be upgraded by the end of 2013 across the whole country. I wish now I would have saved the article I read on the cell carriers and their p;rogress with LTE. I do remember Verison was way ahead of everybody, with AT&T just starting the upgrades. I'm going to stick with AT&T for a while yet to see what happens when all the upgrades are done. Then I will upgrade. I was told, too, and those who have these phone will totally disagree, but sometimes the IPhones do not have the best reception. The sales rep at the store actually told me, when I'm ready to upgrade again, which phones NOT to get if I don't want the IPhone again and to come into the store to do research first before upgrading online. Should add we were standing away from the other reps and customers in the store so no one heard our conversation!.
Even though I miss my IPhone and all the cool stuff, I'm happy I at least have a phone again that works at home!! And all it is is a Sony Erickson flip phone that's about 3 years old.
PS I checked out Verizon, and I do NOT like their plans at all. What is comparable to my AT&T plan, Verizon wanted $50 more a month for basically the same thing.

the 4G-LTE service in Metro Atanta is a poor excuse for phone service. I have been told that new towers are being erected so that I will have no proble making cell calls from my home. I been hearing that for over 6 months.......I am seriously thinking of switching to a "piggyback" service for the exact same service at 1/3 of the monthly cost.

I ami n Fairfield County, CT and the service in my house has always been bad but now it is even worse. I have an iphone 4 and sometimes my phone doesn't even ring, it just goes straight to voice mail. Sometimes I can answer but the party on the other hand can't hear me. This is ridiculous. I am hesitant to go to Verizon because their new plans are more expensive than what we currently have with AT&T but I might have to. AT&T does spend time with me on the phone trying different things. My sim card has been replaced too. I will try shutting off the 3G. I read somewhere that will help in areas with little to no signal. Why? I have no idea. Today I am to go home early and a tech support person will be calling. I am hoping they will agree to a free Micro Cell but I don't have high hopes for that either.

My service has diminished too. I'm in Jackson, MS. I'm very close to the city and I have 2 bars at the most. Tonight I could not send text messages, so I called them. They gave me a $30 credit for my trouble and promised to call back in 2 weeks. I told them my coworkers have CSpire (formerly Cellular South) and have no trouble like I do. When at work, I have dropped calls and when streaming music, it stops constantly. We all have the same IPhone 4 models.
If this continues, I'm leaving AT&T and going to CSpire.

I live in central louisiana and i have no bars in my home and have some bars depending on where i'm standing. I can send txt messages but can't receive or make phone calls. It's been like that for as long as I can remember. Customer service keeps telling me their adding new towers soon but nothing has changed. I'm stuck with att due to contract and bundled services. This sucks big time. I just keep hoping that one day my phone service will be better. ![]()

I too have had a drastic drop in service coverage and have made numerous complaints to CS with the standard reply that they're working on issues and service will get better. However today I called because service was non-existent from Bridgeport CT to Stamford CT, some 30 mile difference. When I called CS the girl checked the towers and said that they were showing deteriorated service. She said that it could be due to hurricane Sandy, and I asked her why my co-workers with Verizon and Sprint phones had full service. Her reply to this was that Verizon towers are so powerful that they wipe out AT&T's signal. So said to her "So what you're telling me is I should switch to Verizon?', and she replied, "Absolutely, I would if I were you, as soon as your contract expires." Now I'm into one of contracts until August 2013, but I will be making my complaint with the AG office to investigate this. I had her note this on my account so it will become part of the record and hopefully the AG will rule to terminate my contract since even customer service feels that AT&T's service is not what they claim it is.
So there you have it folks, AT&T themselves are telling us to go Verizon. Doesn't give me much confidence that the service will get better.

I have had major issues with mine lately. Will be on the phone talking and it drops the call and says "call failed". Now in the past week, I have had either "no service" or "searching" on the top of mine where I've always had 4 bars. Today I dealt with the no service and searching for almost 4 hours, making it impossible for me to place a call or send a text. I'm not sure what's going on that is causing this, but am really getting tired of it, especially as this is my only phone.

I hate coming to LA on business because the cell service is horrific. No matter where I go, from Westwood, to Beverly Hills/West Hollywood, Glendale, Pasadena, Santa Monica or just about anywhere, it's dropped calls, no coverage or most of all it's the folks on the other end of the phone who say I sound distant and scratchy (basically not understandable) even when I can hear them fine. I do not experience this level of problem in any other city in the world where I have taken my AT&T phone. Indoors, outside, in the car, it doesn't matter, the service continues to be substandard. It's inexcusable for a city like Los Angeles to have such pathetic cellular coverage. In fact, I am so disgusted I'm going to Verizon tomorrow just to get a phone that I can use when I'm here in LA.

Getting worse here in S E Idaho every day. I only have cell & text no data plan but cant get service where I used top have it when comming home from the mountains, I can see the city about 10 miles away and cant get service, but Verizon & Sprint can call from nearly every high point on mountains 20 - 30 miles out of town. Had a friend who worked for ATT wireless, he said they were told to cut down cell range so they could cary more data as thats where ATT recieved most of their income. Last night my wife sent text to our daughter who was in different part of our house, 15 minutes later no text had arrived. I'm stuck with 11 more months on my ATT contract then I'm changing.

I am a new customer of AT&T and I am dissapointed. My brother and many friends recommended the service to me all saying the service is great/fantastic but I disagree completely. I live in Elbridge NY where yes the service is top getting 4-5 bars but once you go inside a building bam 1 bar. I went to a local walmart and there is goes again 1 bar through half the walmart then 4-5 bars on the other half.
Today calling my GF I had 3-4 bars and the call dropped. then on the way home I had 2 bars and the call was dropped. At work when I was with verizon I was able to go into the break room or even the security office and still make a phone call. Now I cant I lose service completely.
So far if i had to rate the service I would say 6/10. A friend of mine has a 8.00 track phone and gets better service then I do in the building we work at. I feel that AT&T as well as my friends ignorance's lied to me because the guy at the AT&T store said the service was amazing especially in liverpool nywhere I work which is false. They lied to make a sale which I should of did my research first.
I noticed while driving to work there are many 1 bar spots of service I really wish I never left verizon. Verizon prices are way higher but at least I had far better coverage. I cant believe that AT&T continues to grow for customers while they produce horrible coverage. I think we should all take a stand against AT&T so we dont get ripped off cause I already feel jipped

I have recently switched from Sprint to ATT and cannot believe the poot service quality I have gotten from ATT. I have only had the service for 3 months and have had dropped calls, missed calls where my phone does not even ring or people get a message "the number they are dialing is not in service". I never have enough bars of service, it seems. I have been on the phone with tech support so much that they have a book of calls from me by now. Just last night my son called me 16 times and my phone did not ring, not even once, it is like he didnt even dial my number, yet he showed me on his phone all the calls. I am thinking of just paying the ETF and going with someone who can at least make sure I get my calls. I missed important calls, like my son was hit by a car, they were finally able to contact me 12 hours later, THANKS ATT!. Now I just refer people to a prepaid cell for emergencies. This is not what I pay a bill for. I need reliable service, and each time I call in, it seems like the problem gets worse. They have swapped out my sim card twice and replaced my phone. THE PROBLEM IS STILL HERE!!!

If you think their cell phone service sucks, try getting their Internet!!!! I have my cell and internet bundled. I have to laugh when i go online to pay my bill and I get a message that says something like : "Depending on your internet speed and carrier, this may take a few moments". I've actually lost my internet connection in the middle of paying my AT&T bill!!!
For a company that literally was the first telephone companies in this country - AT&T stands for "American Telephone and Telegraph". (yeah, I'm old and remember the "Bell Systems" when our phone service was provided by Illinois Bell, including having phones that said "Bell" on them), they have become an embarrassment. They should be the standard bearer instead of the poor relation/black sheep in the communications business.

I am frustated with the service at home is very spotty and at worknit depend where you are in the building in ths lobby is the best service at the basement there is no service at all. But my biggest frustration is that anybody else with verizon or any crappy company like metro pcs or cricket have service. I am in south jersey where we got LTE recently but that did not much of a difference. Why can att fix their technical issues with their frecuencies is the only company trying to sell microcells because they can not reach their waves like other companies do. They will be losing customers if they dont change The way their network works.

It;s hard to believe, but its getting worse. While at home I'm suffering on EDGE services. First off what the heck is AT&T doing still supporting EDGE these days? They may as well go back to supporting TDMA services. At least then it worked. While visiting for the holidays I was completely unreachable. There was bars of service yet nothing worked. No text, phone calls, and as usual on all of AT&T's crappy EDGE network, no data. It's horrible. They should go back to the days when they started out price wise if they see it fit to keep 98% of the country in useless and unusable EDGE while competitors from Verizon and even Nteos and US Cellular launch 3G and LTE services in what AT&T would call rural or, as I was called by a customer service rep, a mountain hick from a nothing area. AT&T needs to do something ASAP about this crap service from both customer service and their network. Doesn't help matters when the service is crap and so is the customer service.

I was hoping to find recent comments. It started about a month ago or a little bit longer maybe. I have limited cell service in my home, where I use the phone the most. I have to go stand by my front door to have a full conversation. And like others have said, wii fii won't stay connected (my wii fii is not through AT&T and am not seeing problems working off of my computer), and more recently my 3G keeps going out. And at work where I only use 3G, it is incredibly slow.

Also have the same problem. Been a customer for nearly 20 years and just renewed contract to get 3 Iphones. Reception is terrible. Never had a problem with my Samsung phone, could even talk in my basement. Since we got the iphones I have to stand by a certain window so that I don't loose signal during a call. I even loose signal downtown one block behind the hospital. I have wated time going into the store to switch sim card, drove 2 hours to nearest Apple store because AT&T store doesnt exchange phones themself. Still have the same problem. When I call customer service I get the same old story, wanting to troubleshoot my phone. Everytime they troubleshoot or exchanged my sim card or phone I have to make another trip back to the store because my settings aren't right or voice mail won't work. SICK OF IT !! Gonna go Monday and switch my serviceand number to another carrier. i will take the iphones and their contract to the store and suggest where to put them. That's what wrong with this counrty and the economy. Companies have lost the meaning of "CUSTOMER SERVICE" . They think they have enough customers that loosing a few won't matter. I would suggest all who have the same issue to report this to the F.C.C , the Better Business Bureau, and Agies List.

I wish I had read this post before I went with ATT prepaid plan.
The signal is okay at home(10032), but who needs cell phones at home these days?
There is COMPLETLY NO signal in downtown Brooklyn, midtown or downtown Manhattan, indoors or outdoors whatever. Tried different devices, nokia and samsung, it didn't matter, just no signals.
I thought I might give another try with my friend's phone. But after reading this post, especially watching complaints go on and on for more than half a year, I'll just give up.
Really hope others to read this thread before they choose ATT.

Yes! My husband and myself have been receiving VERY POOR service over the past 7 months.
In December I had made a call in to support, the representative was wonderful and very helpful, but we have been put through the ringer.
We have the worst service in our home so we got a M-Cell, and that wonderful rep went through trouble shooting with that. Then she asked us to pick up new sim cards- so we did that. Then we spoke with Apple and were asked to come into a store to have the phones checked out. Guess what? They were FINE! I know, shocker! AT&T has checked the towers and they have come back saying they are fine. I asked to have a tech come out to our home and all they could do was give me a date range for when one would be here. No time or call ahead to inform us of arrival. We have jumped through every hoop and have driven all over Gods creation and still AT&T will not let us out of our contract. I actually had one representative say to me " Service is not guaranteed" REALLY? I do not know what carrier I will go to but I will say this- I will never go to AT&T for anything (internet, TV, home phone, cell) or refer anyone to them every again. Bad AT&T Bad!

I got the IPhone 4 when they had them for a dollar a few months ago. After about 10 days, sent it back because I could not get reception in my apartment. I had a semi-relationshp going on with the tech people because we were in contact with each other so many times!! NOTHING they did helped so I finally gave up. HOWEVER.....went into the AT&T store and was looking at other phones and the very nice CS gal and I started talking. She said to me, a "just between us" conversation, that when I am ready to get an upgraded phone to get a Samsung. I asked directly about reception with the IPhone and she really didn't say that the reception was poor in these phones, only that yes, some people have had reception problems with them. My guess is no one will admit they have problems with the IPhones because, after all, it IS the most popular phone out there. And people are "sheeple" when their electronic devices are concerned.
And another interesting thing she told me - the new network is not up and running everywhere in the country....yet. AT&T's priorities are in large metro areas like the Chicagoland area. I'm in Illinois but not in an area as large as Chicago so my guess it'll take a while longer to get things upgraded. On AT&T's own website I read it is supposed to be all finished by later this year. I'm still not ready to upgrade my phone yet. I've been a customer for what seems like 100 years (I've had landlines with them forever) so I know if I am not happy with any phone I upgrade to, I can return it within 30 days and reactivate the phone I've been using, which, BTW, has NO reception problems in my apartment!!! It's just a regular Sony flip phone!! Go figure. And yes, it does have all the capabilities of the IPhone, it's just too small to be doing anything other than talking and texting on it.

Their service has always sucked here, but since Hurricane Sandy blew through, it has got even worse. When I call them, all I get is everything looks ok on their end. I guess I'll just send you another $200 this month for my terrible service.

YES...YES...YES..I have been getting poor reception, dropped calls and not receiving calls for the past few months at my home. I think ATT stinks and when my contract is up will switch to Verizon. I have complained to ATT for months about my service and they refer me to purchasing a booster...but that is for 3g phones and anyway I don't think I should have to purchase a booster to get good service. ATT gets an F- in service.
