I have been trying to help an elderly disabled person to get internet services with no results. The gentleman lives at in Houston, Texas 77041. He has his phone through Sage Intercom, which I believe was part of SW Bell. He has had the same number for 42 years and wants to keep the same phone number. He has purchased a laptop and would like to be able to log onto the internet and manage his finances. I first tried to set him up through AT&T. They were real helpful when there was a chance for a sale. The service rep said he could help me save money on my own phone bill. I told him I did not call for that. I wanted to help this elderly disabled person get connected to the internet. He proceeded to take an application from my friend and schedule an appointment for installation. Then he told us he could not furnish internet to that address. I told him that was what I called for. He then switched me to another person who could not help us. I was never able to get back to the person who took the application. I then tried Comcast and they keep canceling their appointments claiming that AT&T will not release the phone number. My daughter has taken a day off from her job to try to solve this problem. She has probably made at least 5 calls lasting a couple of hours each trying to get someone to take care of this. I have also spent 4 0r 5 days trying to get this accomplished. I believe there is a law where an individual should be able to transfer his phone number when he changes carriers. We have spent a month trying to get this elderly disabled man internet service with nothing but frustration. It seems no one in this industry can take a problem to solution. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Thank You
Ronald

Here is some info about number portability. http://transition.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/numbpo
If you are still experiencing problems you can send a private message to the escalation team at ATT Customer Care and someone will get in touch with you within a couple days to help you get a resolution to your problems.

SAGE is an independent telephone provider, not part of AT&T/Soutwestern Bell.
Did your friend's phone service actually switch to AT&T, even after you were told internet wasn't available, or did the whole order get cancelled and your friend's service is still with Sage?
