Error on desktop after power on only

I am getting "internet explorere cannot display web page" on my desktop, before I have even clicked to go online.  Happens right after power on.  I never even use IE I use FF.  When the error shows up it says 'redirector' first.

Additionally, when I have done a search for this error at Yahoo using the text "internet explorer cannot display web page' on my desktop" .... the AT&T Trouble Shoot "ERROR" pops up on my screen. Too weird.

First off, what Operating System, second how are you connected to the ATT equipment?

Operating System: XP

Connected via ethernet card -- let me know if this is not correct answer I was a tad confused.

Just spent 1.5 hours chatting with ATT tech. They just did not get it.

It happens on the desktop BEFORE I browse. I tried to remove IE but option in Add/Remove programs is not there, nor is Repair.  And I rarely use IE.

If you have Service Pack 3 installed, and the latest drivers, it should not be happening. Now on the other hand, if you are placing the machine in sleep mode or hibernate, not complete power off, what you are having is something that came about when Service Pack 3 came out.

After speaking with MS support, this problem has been repaired.

We did an MSconfig, then disabled "Redirector" at Startup Options.  He said this is related to a Firefox add-on.

(Just in case someone else experiences this problem.)

Actually nothing to do with Firefox. This is a issue that has been around going on 12 years now. MS is just trying to keep the blame off of something they have not fixed.

Partially due to certain ethernet & wifi chipset drivers like the Realtek series, is one part, the other is that MS screwed something up in SP3.
