Help! "Ports full"

We have moved into our new house for a month and have been calling ATT almost everyday to request internet service. We are fine with either U-verse or DSL, as long as it's broadband. However, although all our neighbors are using the ATT DSL (U-verse is not available), we cannot get the service because the "port is full". We got the same answer every time we called and were told that an escalating ticket would be created and someone would follow up with us. However, so far nothing has happened. It is so frustrating! ATT is the only service provider in our area (we actually called every possible internet provider already), and we don't want to go with satellite/dial-up because I work from home and need remote desktop frequently. Can someone here share their experience with us on how to cope with the situation? Or any other advice (except for letting us wait indefinitely)? Is there anyway to find out whether ATT is going to add another port to our area? Or when will U-verse expand into our area? Please, please help us! (We are even willing to pay double to get the service provided or to add a landline which we don't need...)
