I had cable installed for the first time in 1982 by the long gone Continental Cable in the St. Louis area. At that time, Continental had three superstations, WTBS Channel 17 in Atlanta (now TBS), WGN Channel 9 in Chicago (now WGN America), and WOR-TV Channel 9 in New York City. WTBS had the Braves, WGN had the Cubs and White Sox, and WOR had the Mets.
After several years Continental Cablevision dropped WOR which by then was known as WWOR. It was still a superstation on other cable and satellite providers. Is there still a WWOR superstation outside of the New York City metropolitan area? Perhaps cable and satellite systems in the northeast still carry it. I know that the station still exists.
Owning a computer and not having the internet is like buying a refrigerator and not stocking it with food.

I don't think WWOR is available as a superstation anymore. I remember picking it up in 1982 when I was living in Honolulu. Over the last 20 years, I have lived in San Francisco, Phoenix and Los Angeles and none of the cable systems that I subscribed to picked up WWOR.

It sounds like no provider has WWOR on the same basis as TBS and WGN America. I hope people from other parts of the country can give their input about the status of WWOR on television providers that they had before U-Verse.

WWOR is no longer available as a superstation. Go to Wikipedia and search for "WWOR EMI service" for details.

Per the previous post, it is still available - I had it when I was with Dish Network. I would assume U-verse could pick it up if they wanted to.

My 1980's local cable outfit (Jones) never carried WWOR. That is one superstation that I really wanted.

I think I have heard of Jones. Didn't he own a hardware store, and ran his cable outfit from a trailer in the back of the hardware store?
Maybe I am thinking of Giovanni's cable outfit. He and his wife, Maria, owned an olive oil distributorship. They ran the cable outfit from one of the back rooms. If you thought that U-Verse had great deals, Giovanni would make you an offer you couldn't refuse.

Tee-hee. Could be. According to this article, he bought his first cable system using his Volkswagen as collateral on a $400 loan. They opened up shop in a few Indiana towns in the early 80's(A reverse Gold rush?). They must have moved their executives from Colorado (and maybe MN) to Indiana as their Stereo add-on, which put HBO and Showtime's stereo audio on vacant FM channels, also featured audio from KOA 850 Radio from Denver and WCCO 830 from The Twin Cities. The stereo add on kit was simply a splitter and a coax to feed your FM tuner or receiver. Hi Tech! ![]()
