So I just got a message and downloaded an update to my TV features, but cannot figure out what the update was.
Is this just some internal thing or are there actual new features ?

"Ren: Now listen, Cadet. I've got a job for you. See this button? Don't touch it! It's the History Eraser button, you fool!
Stimpy: So what'll happen?
Ren: That's just it. We don't know. Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?"

Which U-verse receiver do you have, and where are you located?

It may just be a "bug" fix.

I've had HD for several months and whenever I would turn things off, the blue light indicating HD connection would go out along with everything else...the green light on the DVR always stays on, though.
We had a scheduled power outage today...looks like it might have been for less than a minute...I have the battery backup, but I guess that's for the RG, not power to the DVR. Coming home from work, I noticed the blue light was on. I watched some TV and recorded shows, then turned off the TV and DVR...I do that with the one big button on the remote. Blue light didn't go out.
I unplugged the DVR from power...all lights went out. Plugged back in after about a minute. I guess there was some resetting/rebooting, etc. Finally, turned TV back on...all works OK. Turn TV/DVR off with the remote...the blue HD light stays on.
Is this a problem? What should I do to fix it?
Thanks...Kurt

Maybe an update changed the way it works.
Maybe the outage affected the HDMI interface & it is not getting a signal to turn it off.

1) Which DVR do you have?
2) What firmware version (MENU > Options > System Options < System information > TV2 client version) do you have?
3) How is the U-verse receiver connected to the TV
Some firmware for certain U-verse receiver will keep the blue light on regardless of whether the receiver is connected to the to the TV by HDMI cable or component cables.

It's a firmware update. We have an IPN330 STB in our bedroom and ATT rebooted it at 3:00am today. A short time later the blue light woke me up. Thanks, ATT! I'm going to call customer service and tell 'em it broke. I hope a lot of other people do the same thing. What a stupid "feature" to implement.

Don't waste your time calling, it's not broken. The firmware updates earlier this year for the wireless receiver (Cisco ISB7005) and the new DVR's (Motorola 2250 and Cisco ISB7500) resulted in the same behavior that you see now with the firmware updates for older U-verse receivers.

I live in Northern Calif. Last night, 11/27/2012, at about 11:30 PM, a message came on my TV from ATT stating that there was an update available. It said that if I was watching live TV, or a recording, they would be turned off while updating. I was watching a movie that was close to being over, and didn't want to miss the ending. I chose the option of "wait 3 hours". Strange only two options, do it now, or wait 3 hours. After the movie was over, I turned off the TV and headed for bed. Today I thought there might be a message or something about the update when I turned on the TV. There was nothing.
Anyone know about any updates that were pushed out yesterday? I can't find any info.

Was there an update for this STB? I've noticed that the blue HD light has been staying on even while both the STB and the TV is off now.

I noticed recently that the blue light on my DVR receivers stay lit, even when the tv's are turned off. Previously, they would only be on when the TV was also turned on. Is there a reason why it's staying lit all the time, even when the TV is off?

OK, it sounds like it's a "feature" not a problem. I guess I can live with it.
The answer to texasguy37's questions:
1) Motorola VIP1216
2) 2.1.2512.10 (RELEASE)
3) HDMI cables to component input

In the last two day the HD light (Blue Light) on the front of my receivers are on all the time. Up tell then the light would only come on when the TV was on. Is this a problem or something new to the system from an software upgrade? Thanks in advance to any posts.

I just spent 35 minutes on the phone with 2 technical staff at ATT and they said nothing can be done. THey tried resetting etc but nothing changes the fact that the blue light does not turn off. I normally wouldn't care but one of the the receivers is in our bedroom and it is a piercing little light., Not good when trying to sleep. Yes I can manually change the ratio aspect EACH time I turn off the TV and it goes out and then turn the HDMI ration back on when I want to watch TV. But considering ATT fixed something but caused issues for others is not good. I called and requested acknowledgement of my inconvenience. They will give me a one time $25 credit. Now the $$ isn't the issue. But many should call and request the same and maybe then it will cause someone to notice their fix caused issue of the blue light. ATT is big enough they have the knowledge to correct this if the customers demand it. CALL AND DEMAND...

Small piece of electrical tape will do the trick
Just cover the blue light and make certain you don't block the remote control sensor. I have had 4 boxes, all taped for about 3 years.

Excellent solution. I was going to suggest the same thing.
Both the new DVR's (Motorola VIP 2250 and Cisco ISB7500) and the wireless receiver (Cisco ISB7005) has firmware updates applied earlier this year which now result in the blue light remaining on when connected to the TV by HDMI cable. It has not been an issue.

I received the supposed update yesterday and yes the blue HDMI light is lit up ALL THE TIME. I am not pleased. The light issue has affected all of my STB's and DVR. The answer of putting a piece of black tape on the box, IS NOT AN ANSWER. We all pay a premium price to have this service and everything should be correct. ATT should just fix the update that everybody got and be done with it.
This is very reminiscent of when ATT would not listen to anybody about the Dolby Digital signal. They just ignored it and shut down the blog. After all of that, they fixed it.

When we got our new DVR months ago....it was one of the latest models...with larger HDD and physically smaller in size with all black finish. First thing I noticed was that the blue HD light remains on all the time....regardless if it is on or off AND no matter if I'm using HDMI or component cabling. The tiny green LED next to the HD indicator also stays on continually. Actually....contrary to what some folks think....the set top boxes are never turned completely off unless the power goes off or they are unplugged. In the living room, kitchen and computer room the blue light is now on all the time. No big deal to us. If we had a TV in the bedroom I'd use the small piece of black electrical tape over it. But I go to bed to sleep or read....not watch TV.![]()

It appears I now also have the constant blue light.
The electrical tape trick solved it!! Good suggestion!!

Yes I know this is a really minor issue but the first night it stayed on it kept me awake until I unplugged the receiver. Of course then when I plugged it back in the next morning, it took the usual 5-10 minutes before it was up and could watch tv.
My rant for the day! Matt

I was going to say "Two words: Electrical Tape" but you've already figured it out.
