Setanta Sports video and sound badly out of sync

A few weeks ago, I added Setanta Sports (channel #657) to my subscription. Starting last week, the sound and video for this channel on all of my receivers got out of sync by about 1 to 2 seconds. All of my other channels including HD channels are fine. Rebooting the RG and the receivers did not solve the issue. I called AT&T to report this and was told by L2 tech support that they needed to open a ticket to get the channel fixed.

Yesterday, I tuned to Setanta Sports and discovered that the sync issue is much worse. Video is now ahead of sound by 5+ seconds. Has anyone else seen this and should I call AT&T again to follow up on getting this channel fixed?

I tuned in today for the first time to Setanta to watch the FA Cup. The picture is so blurry you cant tell the players apart until they go to on field camera. Is that normal for this channel?

Sound was in sync though.

I've noticed the same thing. I thought it was only on programs I had DVR'd from Setanta, but when watching live last night, I had the same issue...it was at least five seconds behind, maybe even closer to ten.

I was watching the Champions League game today between Chelsea and Juve and the sound was several seconds late. I am going to call AT&T again to follow up on my call from last week. If you have Setanta and you are experiencing this issue, I suggest you call AT&T as well.

I just had U-verse installed on Friday and the Setanta Sports channel has been out of sync (audio behind video) from the get go (noticed it Saturday afternoon). I have chatted with support and called in. Monday night I was told they have an internal ticket open (# 113053783) for this issue. Also, I asked the technician why the main page of my U-verse account states in the AT&T U-verse Service Advisory section that "There are no known problems on the AT&T network at this time" when U-verse clearly knows there is a network problem to which she stated that might be because the ticket was just opened within the last hour. Now that it's 36 hours later I would have expected this network problem to be noted on everyone's account page.

I'd also suggest that everyone experiencing this problem call into U-verse support to report it. Maybe this issue will move up the priority list if more people call in.

I checked again and mine was out of sync also. But other channels were also out of sync.

Sync issue was not as bd last night. It's probably gone from 5+ seconds to around 1 second. But I did notice that Comcast Sportsnet Chicago was slightly out of sync also (less than a second in my estimation).

Tuesday the sound issue was horrible. Yesterday it seemed ok to me. PQ on the Arsenal/Roma game was poor, at best, although I'm never sure who's at fault on the picture issues - the italian TV feed, Setanta, or U-verse. I tend to think most of the problem is with the feed and Setanta. I've never seen an Italian based game in which edge enhancement wasn't turned to 11 but the Chelsea/Juve game wasn't exactly a stellar production either.

The slight audio delay (like what I noticed yesterday) is tolerable during soccer matches since you almost never have someone on screen talking. But during rugby matches it's just awful since the referee is mic'd. Seeing the scrum start and then hearing "Touch, Pause, Engage" is maddening even if it's only a single second delay. I hope they get this figured out soon. Even the split second delay on CSN Chicago forces you to not look directly at a person that's speaking on camera.

I called AT&T yesterday to follow up on this and the T1 tech I spoke with indicated that this issue is still not resolved and that AT&T's network team is still working on it. She suggested that I call back in 3 business days to follow up again and to request a credit on my bill. I will be calling back on Monday after which, I'll post what I find out here.

Monday 16th 3pm CT - Setanta audio seems to be now nearer 7 or 8 seconds behind the play.

Thanks for the tip about the credit. Normally I wouldn't bother but having been bummed around by tech support two weeks ago (a waste of two hours of my life and half my recordings are now unplayable) I'm going after every penny/cent I can get.

Saturday it seemed it be fixed and then Sunday morning I went to watch the Man City - Chelsea match and it was as bad as ever. Called in again to report the problem. I've now found 3 different channels with audio/video sync issues, (CSN-Chicago, Food Network HD, & Setanta Sports).

I tuned to Setanta Sports about 30 minutes ago and the sound/video were in perfect sync. I'll check again later tonight during the Football Matters show.

I sure hope it is fixed. I was watching an Aussie Rules game over the weekend and the sync (or lack thereof) was maddening.

Was everybody's fixed? I checked mine about 9:40 tonight and the audio/video sync was still off. GRRRRRRRR

It's not fixed. The replay of the England-France Rugby match last night had the same audio delay issue.

Usually sync issues are not a problem caused by the service provider. If that was the case every channel coming in on their service would have moderate to severe sync issues. If this specific channel is experiencing it a lot it could be because of their transmission. IMHO

Maybe. But I doubt this is case on the Setanta Sports Channel, since I can go down to my friendly neighborhood bar that has Setanta via sat package and there's no sync issues. Tier 2 has told me that the "programmers" are working with Microsoft on this issue.

Also, I have the Setanta Broadband package (haven't cancelled it yet since U-verse hasn't been able to fix this issue) and there's no audio-video sync issue on that feed.

I go to Fado's Irish Pub in Columbus quite often to watch soccer matches and their Setanta feed over Direct TV is just fine. The same is true for "The Pub" at Polaris Fashion Place in Columbus. Something appears to be wrong with how AT&T U-verse is transmitting this channel.

Are you all remembering this is IPTV and there is a conversion process involved? Terrestrial tv is broadcast from satellite to a receiver and then sent over cable to the cable/satellite box's tuner. IPTV is sent in internet packets to the stbs and then decoded and displayed on the tv. So the process is a little different. That is why I said if the other channels "in Uverse" are playing without the severe sync issues, it could be something on the broadcasters end. IMO

I am currently not experiencing any sound sync issues on other channels including HD channels. Setanta Sports is the only channel on my set up that has this issue.

I understand this is IPTV, but I still don't see how this isn't a U-verse issue. I'm paying U-verse for a service (IPTV) and the service on the Setanta Sports channel (and others) is substandard. They should fix the issue in a timely manner even if that means working with Setanta/the broadcaster.

No one has answered whether or not Setanta is the only channel experiencing this sync issue. I understand your points. But I guess seeing that you haven't answered I will take that as a no. If you are interested I do have a contact I can suggest but seeing that you are either unable or unwilling to answer that question I will mosey on.

I believe I answered your question earlier. I''ll repeat. Setanta Sports is the only channel in my U-400 lineup that is experiencing the sound/video sync issue. Every other channel I've tried is OK.

Sorry, I didn't scroll up to see your response. If it was happening on all of your channels then I would have given you the name of a person who could get your services checked. I don't know if AT&T is going to find a way to solve this kind of issue with one channel, that not everyone is experiencing the same problem. Try unplugging the stb from the wall for 15 seconds and after it reboots see if the sync issue is cleared up.
