Thanks for sharing, but as poster #2 said there is no mention of AT&T since U-verse doesn't have NHL Center Ice. I am certainly willing to bypass the free preview and will pay for the entire season if AT&T can get the programming.

If U-Verse wishes to be seen as a major threat to the big cable companies then among sports fans it needs to offer sports on demand packages such as "NHL Center Ice, NBA League Pass and MLB Extra Innings."

I know I'm hoping for these in the next couple weeks. But of course I've been waiting 2 years now so I'm not holding my breath.

I agree with that 1000% Hopefully we'll see it appear this weekend when the season starts.

I have only been holding it for a year. I am not counting on anything, but I love everything else about U-verse that I am not willing to leave. Came over from TWC last Oct after ten years. Center Ice is the ONLY thing I miss about TWC.

This article is not about NHL Center Ice, but does talk about the NHL TV contracts coming up in the next year and the rising viewership in TV ratings the last few years. In the article it does talk about the increase in the number of people buying the similar Center Ice package on-line. I guess that is a route I can take if AT&T doesn't get the package.

Just another user who switched from TWC to ATT-Uverse who would dearly love to have the option of the NHL Center Ice package. As it is even the channels I am receiving/paying for have most games blocked in my viewing area. Very frustrating.

The NHL Network is included in the Sports Package which is available for $10/month.

I find the argument citing the fact that "it's a business decision to not offer NHL Center Ice" interesting. Interesting in that virtually every other major television provider has seen fit to offer said service and determined that it is profitable.
Absolutely asinine that it is not offered. U-verse users as a whole are not some special subset of the population that doesn't like hockey. If it's profitable to the other major service providers with which U-verse competes to offer NHL Center Ice, it is reasonable to assume it would be profitable for ATT as well.
So rather than ATT getting a chunk of my ~$160 NHL Center Ice order, they'll be getting $0 since I have to resort to ordering NHL Gamecenter Live so that I can watch hockey on my computer.

If whether or not to offer the NHL Ice Package is not a business decision, then what it it? Is U-verse not offering NHL Center Ice because they enjoy receiving complaints from those who want the package?

It seems to me that at some point ATT has to decide if it is going to compete with DISH as the lower tier service provider or go to bat with the major leagues-DirecTV, COMCAST,TW. BY neglecting sports fans, they are writing off some of the biggest spenders of programming. Not to mention competing for business customers like sports bars, etc. I live in the Chicago area and almost every bar I go to has DirecTV . That's a huge amount of business to write off.

Why do those sports bars not carry a cable service since most cable services offer the sports packages? Since those sports bars do not carry a cable service, why would they choose U-verse over DirecTV if U-verse carried the sports packages?

Most sports bars use Direct TV because they have an exclusive contract with the NFL. Pretty simple.

One would think that sports bars carry DirecTV because they are the only ones that have the Sunday NFL Ticket and can cater to any crowd. There are a couple of sports bars here in San Antonio that get huge crowds to watch the Packers and have drawn the crowd for years....just a thought.

Bingo! You both are correct. I was hoping the poster would respond with that answer. With DirecTV's exclusive deal for NFL Sunday Ticket, they will always be the TV provider of choice for a sports bar. There is little that cable, Dish or U-verse can do to compete with that. I doubt seriously that any of those providers would waste time trying to market their services to sports bar. They cannot compete with DirecTV.

Some of the chain sports bars MAY have the local cable offering, if only as a backup.
There's a channel in Ohio that isn't on ANY satellite service. I used to go to the sports bar to watch it, and yes, they subscribed to the local cable provider.
I'm sure it's a rarity though.

Is it very difficult to hook the computer up to the tv to watch hockey if I sign up for CenterIce online?
I am in deeeeep caca with my husband because I made the switch from Comcast to Uverse..... the salesperson that came and signed us up raved about the hockey when he was here and I did not think to check about the Center Ice package. Signed up for the Sports package thinking it was a given that it would be available as an add on the NHL network OOPs!

If you have a newer computer with the output and a TV with something like "PC in" it's quite easy. Just make sure you get a connector cable that can handle sound output, or else you're stuck listening through computer speakers.

If we drop the Uverse TV and get Directv am I correct in assuming that we could then subscribe to NHL/CenterIce?
Just wondering what I would be missing by making this switch....
Thanks

Yes, you can get CI with DirecTV. If you are a sports fan, DirecTV is the service for you. You can also get MLB Net, MLB EI, NBA TV, NBA League Pass and NFLST.

With the season now a week old I guess U-Verse once again won't be getting Center Ice. Hope I'm wrong but the track record says otherwise
