Yeah this doensn't works and hasn't worked in 3 days on a side note I had phone until probably 11 A.m. yesterday so whatevers broken isn't fixed. If one looks around th Xbox Support forums theres alot more people being affected then AT&T is willing to admit and there all Uverse subscribers, well depending on how much longer they beat around the bush about the issue that might turn into were Uverse subscribers. *edit* I'm in Metro Atlanta btw

Dude, Im in the Keys Im experiencing the same thing, so I called both Xbox, At&t didnt reply, so when I called XBOX support and they told me that AT&T had upgraded their firmware for the Uverse network, and by doing that, not knowing it cut down the MTU, which PC's doesnt need this to access the internet but XBOX and XBOX live does, thats why it stops at the Internet part when your troubleshooting, and gives you that MTU error, so ending this you need at least 1380 MTU at least to sign on and use Xbox live right, well AT&T jumble cut the MTU to like 576, untill AT&T fixes this, we're screwed

I have roughly 4-5 drops out of the blue in an hour's worth of play on my XBox...well, probably more.
I am just chalking it up to the issues with the network at the moment

Xbox Live Service status says everything is good now, but modem is still set at 576. Can anyone confirm if the problem is resolved? Will a gateway reboot be needed to get the MTU rate back to 1500?

After reading XBL’s latest status update I reluctantly rebooted my gateway and this time it came back up with an MTU of 1500.
I don’t know if it will work for everyone, but my son is now able to get back on XBL using our u-verse connection.

Confirmed in the Miami Florida area. I just reboot my gateway and I'm back up and running at 1500 MTU.

Thanks for posting that. I'm here in Nashville and our entire service was down and came back up on Monday morning. My Mom is in Hendersonville TN and hers came back late Monday afternoon. I'm at home and will attempt the reboot and see what happens. Whatever happens I'll post back and let everyone know.

Yep...just did the power boot on the modem, waited about 20 seconds and plugged back in. Went thru the cycle and checked the Xbox Live....worked just fine. Didn't have to make any adjustments or changes.
By the way on the Xbox Live Status site, they are still showing the Warning that some on AT&T are having issues signing in to LIVE.

The 576 MTU is attached to the outage that happened recently for DHCP in the SE/SW states. If you check the area where you actually change the MTU, by default it's set to 1500. If you check the page where it shows the actual MTU it will show 576. It's a known issue with U-verse and is being addressed in an outage ticket. No ETR yet.
Typically just rebooting the modem fixes it.

I'm in NC, and my MTU is still 576. I've been with ATT for only about 6 months now. This doesn't exactly make me want to keep paying for their service.
I rebooted a few times yesterday, but I won't be doing that today until I read it's been fixed. As I'd rather not lose my connection completely.
D*** it. And I had plans with friends on XBL too. ![]()

Some areas are still being effected. However what you want to do to reset properly is to remove the power cord from the back of your ATT Gateway wait at least 20 seconds and plug it back in. If you're not up and running after doing that then it is safe to assume their are still issues in your area.

MTU was still 576 when I checked a few minutes ago. Went to http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_5_7 & clicked 'Reset Broadband', MTU changed to 1500 after the reset & i can now connect to XBL.

I rebooted my 2wire modem/router. My MTU updated from 576 to 1500. Thanks to everyone for saving me a call to ATT!

Same. I just did "reset broadband" here: http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=C_5_7 and my MTU immediately changed from 576 to 1500. My Verizon Network Extender now works again and my internet speeds are back to 24/3Mbit ( previous speed tests were ~7/1Mbit after my service was restored yesterday afternoon ).
Thanks a lot. I was also nervous to reset anything since I was down for 2 days.

Greensboro, NC - So after seeing XBL's service update about restarting the modem, I did so when I got home around 5pm EST 1/24. I did about 4 laps of jumping around saying "Yay, yay, yay, yay!" when my XBL connected.. FINALLY!
But now its 1am on the 25th and my internet just went out. Oh joy.

I've been combing these forums recently since also experiencing the issue and it's caused by engineers lowering that MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) to alleviate congenstion on the servers while they work on the issues...It's a way to limit bandwidth so they can work quicker.
Not much anyone can do except wait it out and check other threads here. I can confirm my issue has been resolved as of 1/24/13 afternoon in southern Orlando, FL, but can't say that for any other areas.
Check this thread often and update it... http://forums.att.com/t5/Features-and-How-To/MTU-c
