Local on the 8s Petition

This is a petition to get the Local on the 8s from The Weather Channel. Currently, we only get the national headend feed. It is very crucial to have the localozed feeds. In some areas that are prone to storms it is a necessity. It is very easy for AT&T to make them available. They just have to install an Intellistar in their VHOs. Verizon FiOS already has them, so there is no excuse about why U-verse can't have them. If you also agree that we should have the Local on the 8s, please make brief post below expressing your feelings about it. Please limit youself to one post. If you want to discuss the lack of Local on the 8s with others, please do so here.

Yes, we need this in Houston.  We depend on the red crawl at the bottom for severe weather alerts out of nowhere.  They correspond with the NOAA weather radio reports (though when my weather radio goes off, it is usually a boat/beach report).

Flash flood alerts can crop up as you're about to walk out the door, when no rain was even predicted for the day.  This has already happened with me with Uverse, and I got stuck in a hailstorm and flash flooding (in my car) and stranded for over 3 hours at a nursing home (higher ground). 

Warped the rotors on my brakes...ended up spending the night in a hotel even though I was less than 15 minutes away from home.  We had no cash and could not get any food because all the hotel had was vending machines for drinks and the hotel wouldn't cash a local check or take my AE for cash!  Fast food places on every corner, but not accessible because of the flood (corners flooded). 

I'm a native, and have never been caught in a flash flood before!  And because I watch The Weather Channel Local on the 8s!

When there is an evac alert for hurricanes, Local 8s is essential as it shows zip codes that are affected.  Local 8s does the same thing with zip code alerts when there are tornadoes/hail/flash floods.  Sometimes we even get snow! 

And no, I don't always have my computer on to check The Weather Channel on the Net; nor should that be an acceptable substitute, but only an additional outlet.

And believe it or not, there are still many people who do not use computers and only have their Local 8s to give them severe alerts.

(I don't have UBar yet, but that will be just another additional outlet--and you have to have the Internet to set up UBar; for people without the Net, that will be useless.) 

What makes me angry about this is Sales (yes, we won't get started with that!) told me there was Local on the 8s with local weather before I signed up.  Had I known that was not the truth (and being told 'it's coming' since June), I might not be with UV.

WE not only want our Local on the 8's here in Cleveland, we NEED them!!

We get some nasty stuff in the summer rolling out across Lake Erie and in winter, the lake effect snows can literally bury you.

We NEED our Local on the 8's AT&T!!!

And Blue Northers in TX!  Temperature can drop 40+ degrees in the blink of an eye!  Sky turns bright dark blue, thus the name.  Our equivalent of your Nor'easters.

DFW area need Local on the 8's. This year we have had alot of Flooding and Heavy Rain. Plus we do get very bad weather in the Spring. We really need it.

San Antonio is the headquarters. You should KNOW how much we need it here. How many drownings from cars being caught on the wrong street are prevented by local on the 8ths here? I know it has saved my bacon.

Definitely need Locals on the 8s here in Tornado Alley (Oklahoma City).  Locals on the 8s is about the only thing I miss about cable.

BTW, since NOAA is a Federal Agency, shouldn't that be available as standard fare?  But I guess it's like NASA channel...

Well I know it would be very nice to have in Oklahoma City.  We tend to have tornados, and lots of severe weather.  It wouldn't be difficult for AT&T to make this happen.

The National Weather Service does a great job in issuing storm warnings. We need local local on the 8's...and we need the local radar shown with the storm warning crawls. C'mon AT&T...even my cable company had this service!

YES! This is one more inconvenient item with Uverse. I keep 1 TV connected to my HOA provided Comcast cable so that I can get the Local on the 8's.
