Hello guys, I hope I can get some help here.
A month ago I upgraded from the 12 mb to the 24 mb service and at first my desktop was able to get 22's 23's mb right away but not my PS3. So I called tech support and a lady changed some settings in my router and right away my PS3 went from 6 mb - 8 mb's to a steady 13-14 mb's everytime I did a speed test in my PS3. She told me I would be getting higher speeds in the next few hours but it never went above 14.8 mbs. But now my problem is that for the last week or so every time I do a speed test in my PS3 (I use the PS3 tester) I don't get more than 8 mbs even though my desktop is still in the 21-22 range.
So I was hoping I could get some ideas on how to improve my PS3 internet speed. I have a 2wire Gateway router 3600 HGV. It's connected using a phone jack instead of cable and I got my PS3 connected to the router using a CAT 6 ethernet cable.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'd recommend putting your PS3 in the DMZ (i.e. DMZplus mode). This essentially means all unsolicited internet traffic goes to the PS3. This is dangerous for a normal PC but I have never heard of a PS3 being hacked over the internet. If you do put the PS3 in DMZPlus mode you will have to explicitly setup port forwarding for any services or games you might run on your PC (e.g. a web server).
Another change some people recommend is changing the PS3 MTU setting. The MTU basically limits the size of messages the PS3 sends in order to prevent the message being split up (i.e. splitting messages decreases throughput). The perfect MTU can vary but it's probably in the 1460 to 1500 range. The 3600 should have a MTU setting of 1500 so you should start there and work down.
I'd also recommend running the speed test while your other network devices are turned off, so at least you know the "best case" speed.

Is your PS 3 wired or wireless?

I think using a Cat 6 Ethernet cable would qualified as wired. ![]()

Thank you for the replys guys. Two days into the 3-day report period tech service was doing to my router the speed went back to the 14's but now is back to the 7's. I'm going to try what Malik recommended.
Thanks again, I appreciate it.
