I'm curious; what do you watch on it? I'm not trying to be snide -- I'm genuinely interested.
It's been a year or two since I've had it. It was nice for things like BSG and whatnot until Sci-Fi and the others went HD themselves. Not sure what I'd watch on it now (which is why I am asking).
Also, did they ever fix their DD5.1? Used to really be 2.0 "upmixed" audio (meaning it was a 5.1 stream but wasn't really 5.1 discrete channels), which drove me nuts.

I get MGM and SMTH which indicate I am not subscribed (even though I have u400). This whole HD Premium tier is crap. I subscribe to u400 because I don't want limits -- and it costs a bundle. So they want to nickel-and-dime you for $5/month? It's annoying. After adding in iPhone (and other family phones), internet, and landline -- I pay them one hunk of change!
Arrrgh.

I expect this is market based? I thought I was getting HD when I ordered. The installer walked in the house and saw the plasma TV on the wall and aked me if I thought I was getting HD? Of course I said yes... While calling in and setting me up he requested they give me HD for free for one year, they did. The channel directory I was given shows all HD on a separate tier called "HD Services" and states "monthly HD technology fee applies".
None of the other tiers show any HD channels including U400.
Now, that said, I scrolled through every single HD channel, NONE OF THEM ARE HD. They are all coming over as 480p standard definition!!!! All including networks, ESPN, CNN etc. So they charge extra for something we don't even get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll have to go to the set up and see if something changed. Maybe this is why I don't think the HD is as good as TWC was.... which did come over high def. Never mind. I went to options, I set up HD to come over 1080i.... why doesn't it have 1080p?

Currently, no stations broadcast in 1080p. Only 720p and 1080i.

I'm on U300. When I saw that MGM and Smithsonian had showed up in the guide yesterday, I called to order the Premium Tier. After being put on hold a couple of times for a total of about 15 minutes, the sales rep (really nice guy, I might add) said he was unable to enter the order yet, but then offered to keep trying on my behalf over the next few days - nice courtesy. I told him that if it affected my bill by more than $5 (plus any sales tax) he would need to call me before entering the order and he acknowledged. Then, out of the blue, he offered me 6 months of U400 for free, ostensibly for calling to order the HD tier and for my trouble. I'd say that was a nice incentive to try out the new Premier HD Tier. ![]()
Woohoo!

Has any else noticed this about the new MGM and Smithsonian channels.
If you select them, they actually display something like "This channel cannot be recorded" in bright yellow text.
So let me understand this ...
ATT wants to charge me $5 a month more for 3 HD channels (2 of which I can't even DVR). Yeah Right!!!

This is what I suggest. Go to the STB's Options menu and check your aspect ratio settings. If you have the big HD receiver you should have this aspect ratio set for wide screen at either 720p or 1080i, depending on your set's rated abilities.

The new channels are not enabled yet, so of course you can't record them. You get the same message if you go an international channel you don't subscribe to and try to record it.
I have seen this on some HD channels I am already subscribed to.

Well, I'm subscribed to them and a quick check last night allowed me to record. Any chance the ban on recording is on a show-by-show basis?

Two hours going between sales and tech support, got more information on Engadget than the CSRs have knowledge about (save one fellow). The order was placed yesterday via the portal with the little checkbox applied next to the option for "HD Premium (additional $5)" and sales verified order was in system (yes its _this_ necessary), so while conversation is in-process the sales person says this update is simple and should be available within three hours; update via usual hard boot.
Nope...not even 24 hours later.
Went back into the portal today, and find order number 108461264 description "Double Pack U200, Pro" problematic expect to see "Double Pack U300, Max" or something resembling the actionable order request. Sigh, another call but hey forget about it; todays call to tech support was yet >another< bounce to sales (office closed) claim order remains in-process...
This "left hand doesn't know what the right hands doing" thing is sans any real JDPowers satisfaction. I refuse to support programming premiums like HBO demands, and this aggravation when I'm consenting to $5 for 3 services is a real stretch.
what a mess.

Their HD Premium Tier is featured in their pricing page. It is $5 per month and you have to subscribe to their HD service ($10 er month). Right now there are only 3 or 4 channels and they are moving 2 from the regular HD service to the premium Tier on November 10th. Nowhere is there any mention of 100 channels on either service.
Currently, the HD Premium Tier has 6 channels. After the move of HDNet and HDNet Movies in November, the HD Premium Tier will contain 8 channels for $5/month.
