I would like to suggest a feature that would make it easier to toggle closed captions. Maybe it's there but I can't find it. I just had UV installed yesterday, so maybe I missed it. I would like to be able to turn CC on or off with one or two presses on the remote. Now, it appears I have to wade through many menu items to toggle. Why not assign the A, B or C button?
I noticed my Sharp SD TV works if I let the TV control CC, using just the CC button on the set's remote, but it's not easy to do so from the UV remote. And my Toshiba HDTV does not work using the set's native CC.
Am I missing something here? I came from DirecTV and they updated the software recently so the yellow button pops up a small menu to toggle CC with 3 button presses.

Not missing anything, it's not there...several (including myself) have suggested they program a button for it (I vote for C).
BTW, button A is already taken, it opens Ubar.

This is my biggest beef too. There needs to be an easier way to toggle the cc on and off. Does anyone from AT&T respond in these forums with at least an acknowledgement that a new feature is needed? That they are working on it? Where in the list of feature upgrades it exists?
My guess is that there are only three buttons (A-B-C) and they don't want to dedicate a second button to just control one feature. Perhaps one of the buttons could have a short list of 'favorite' features and toggling CC could be one of them in the list.
It seems this has been an issue for years and they still have not addressed it. That is sad. I read in a thread somewhere that it takes 13 clicks of the remote to toggle CC on/off; it takes me 23, so I need to figure out what shortcuts they are using.

Agree, they do need to make it easier to toggle the CC's on/off. AT&T may be aware of it but it has not really been pushed for a fix.
There is no shortcut and whoever said it takes 13 clicks is probably not counting all the right/left/down arrows. I'm counting 21 clicks for digital CC's.

Menu > Options > System Options > Audio/Language Options > Closed Captioning
WHEN did that happen?
A few less clicks...

What a great idea to add to the B or C buttons, as I like how DVD and Blu-Ray remotes have this one button feature.
TWC cable didn't have this on their remote either and it was just as cumbersome to get the CC on.

Our old TW remote had a CC button, but we had analog back then and no DVR.
Always have CC turned on, but sometimes need it off to see bottom crawl.

The information that I was given was that the remote came with the ABC buttons by the manufacturer, and ATT didn't program them, but opted to wait. Comcast had the buttons to program to 3 most used channels. How about that?
I'm here too because of the 20 plus clicks it takes to turn CC on and off. ARE YOU LISTENING ATT? That is about 18 clicks too many to get or turn it off.

Not sure who you are talking to here since the "B" and "C" buttons have never done anything on the remote?
Completely agree with your previous post that it's a real pain to get the CC's on/off without 20 clicks on the remote.
Wouldn't be so bad if you could use the Closed Captions feature on your TV but that will not work with U-verse.

I just found this site because I wanted to see if anyone would listen to suggestions about the CC and the excessive clicks to get it (on or off). Just wondering if Att is really listening, or are we just swapping stories and exercising our jaws (fingers)? Evidentially there are a couple out there that are aware of the problem. And the big question is will Att do anything about it? It would not be that difficult! If it is, they need to find another business enterprise.
I know that my A B C buttons don't do anything( see previous post).

Not trying to shift blame from AT&T here, but this kind of usability issue can probably only be addressed by Microsoft; their OS is what's powering the U-verse set-top boxes, and a handful of other mediocre A/V devices.
It's ultimately AT&T's responsibility for choosing to use Microsoft's OS on their boxes, rather than rolling their own Linux-based solution for maximum flexibility. The net result is that AT&T's options are far more limited where new U-verse functionality (and changes to core functionality) are concerned.

AT&T has upgraded software since I have been a subscriber. So what's the big deal. They should send a request to Microsoft. They are a big customer of Microsoft.
It would be nice to know if anybody at AT&T ever looks at any of these posts.

Believe they do read these posts.
U-verse is currently pushing out a software update to fix the problems with closed captions on the VOD movies as posted here.
Believe programming the remote buttons (B or C) for one toggle closed captions may involve a lot more than a software update from MS. But it sure would be a nice feature for those that use closed captions.

To be clear the A button DOES do something, it brings up Ubar.

They look and things do get changed. ![]()
Do a search for Closed Captions and you'll see others want the same thing. I would use the red C button for CC myself!
They recently added a Favorites Channel add/remove feature from the Zoom button, so I could see them easily doing the same thing for CC.
Always have CC on, and rarely turn it off, but it IS a lot of steps as it stands now. ![]()

Adding one button CC would be so nice. Wife and I use it all the time, but CC is annoying when watching sports or live programming, which is 50% of my TV viewing....
C'mon AT&T!!!!!

Yeah, a real pain to access the U-verse closed captions and maybe the problem is being outright ignored?
I'll try and follow up on this further next week. It's been a month since I've spoken with anybody about this issue and haven't received any feedback on a possible fix.

In the meantime it may help to voice your difficulties with the current U-verse closed caption system. Contact info specific to closed captions can be found on the front of your U-verse bill under "For Your Information" at the top of the box on the right (St. Louis location). Contact can be done by phone or email. Thanks.
