I tried to change the firewall settings yesterday. Every time I tried to save the change, it would ask for the system password. After entering the password, it said "An unknown error has occurred." Then I tried to reset the device back to factory default settings, but I still could not change any other settings of the router, like wlan name, wireless password, etc. The error message showed up every time after I entered the password.
I tried to reboot, reset the device many times but it was still the same problem. I was wondering if I should take my router to an AT&T store and ask for change?
Any help here?

They can't do anything at an ATT store. Did you call TS about this error? A factory default is hold the little button on the back for at least 20 seconds until the lights on the RG flash. That will reset the password to the one on the sticker on the side. If you did that then something is wrong, call TS. Good luck ![]()

Thanks Chris. I did try to use the reset button several times but still got problem. It's good to know the ATT store solution would not work though.

Call TS, might be the wrong sticker on RG or it's a reflashed refurbed unit w/old sticker. Use the # in my sig. ![]()
Would be nice if ATT store was an option, but ATT still thinks of them as wireless stores, Uverse is a sideline there.

So a guy came to my apartment with a new router(at least it looks like a new one). He changed the router and got the TV & internet working. Then we tried to access the setting page of the router, the same problem showed up.
The new router's serial # ends with 343, so the wifi network default name was supposed to be "2WIRE343". However, instead of having a wifi named "2WIRE343", we had a wifi named "2WIRE822" which was the unknown network I found out with my former router yesterday. My former router's serial # ends with 039, so I have know idea whose this 2WIRE822 router is.
When I refresh the 192.168.1.254 page, sometime I can get the page showed with wifi named "2WIRE343". But the point is, I still cannot change any settings of the router.
After a long phone call with his colleague, the guy told me it was my computer's problem. The "memorized information of 2WIRE822" was in my computers( I actually tried with my three laptops, either PC or Mac doesn't work).
The guy left my apartment with a "sorry", and I did realize he could do nothing about it. I don't think the cache or history information on my computers can impact the firmware of the router. I think it might just those AT&T guys messed up when they installed the 2WIRE822 device for another customer in my community. The lines of 2WIRE822 and mine might get mixed up.
Unfortunately, I can't and won't go to check the communication problem in my apartment so I am going to change my service provider. It is sad to say goodbye to Uverse TV, I really enjoyed it.

It sounds to me like you're trying to change the settings through a computer connected wirelessly.
If you can, turn off the wireless on the laptop and try connecting your laptop to the router with an ethernet cable.
I did this, and was then able to change my settings easily. Hopefully you will be able to also.

I know its been 3 years, but I have had the same problem recently and was banging my head until I came to look at the actual router, turned off my airport, plugged macbook into router directly (hardwire). Then while looking at my router side in grey it gives you the "Wireless Network Key" but it also gives a "Device Access Code." This Device Access Code is the password to change any settings in your 2wire router. Try it, it worked for me.
Good luck!
