Are you asking because you think you need new phones? Or were you planning on getting new ones anyways?
You do not need special phones for Uverse voice service.

If you have UVerse/UVerse voice or UVerse with standard phone service the big recommendation I would have for you relates to cordless phones. If you are going to get a cordless phone get a 5.8 ghz...I recommend NOT getting a 2.4 ghz phone. The 2.4 ghz phone can and has interferred with the wireless signal on the home portal. As far as corded phones you can get anyone that you want.
Best,
Bob

STOP and call support before making any purchase!
i know, the call will take about 40 minutes, but there are incompatible phones with uverse voice's caller id...we only found out after we had ours installed and troubleshooted with support...and, no one offered us anything for the inconvenience because our caller id works about 25% of the time at best...take care

I don't have U-verse voice yet, I think it's just starting to come in my area but seeing this thread I thought I'd chime in. I am currently using the ATT dect 6.0 cordless phone and it has had the best reliability and no interference. I'm assuming it should work well with Uverse voice and should be very good with wireless networks.( No interference )

i should have said earlier that the vtech 5.8ghz is the phone we have...caller id rarely works...
we've also started experiencing two recurring issues with the system and not the phone...they are:
1. when people call us they commonly receive the message that our number has been disconnected or no longer in service
2. we try to dial out and can't - we get a fast busy
the first time we called the att rep he said that we can check our system settings out online...we know that and when we check, the system says everything is cool...plus, it's not our job to support the service we're paying for...

I have had Voice for a couple weeks and am kind of ambivalent about it. The biggest drawback is not knowing when we've gotten a message. In the past, we came home, walked in the kitchen, and looked to see if the answering machine was lit up. Now, we're told we have to pick up the phone and listen to the dial tone to see if it pulstates or is steady. I'm told that there are special compatible phones that will tell you when a message is present but I can't find them on the ATT website.
I do like the fact that I get emails at work telling me I have a voice mail at home but trying to log onto the site to see who sent the message is time consuming and the site is frequently slow or totally down.
My house is equipped with a fairly old Radio Shack cordless phone system with three extensions. They work fine with Voice other than the lack of message notification.
I don't really need any more phones but I will buy one for the kitchen if anyone can recommend a cordless one that will display when a new message has arrived.

Just added U-voice today. Caller ID does not work on GE DECT 6.0 phones purchased last December. I have plugged directly into RG with no change. Corded phone works in Kitchen. Interesting is the caller ID works sometimes on one cordless phone, then the other, sometimes both, often neither. For for giggles I got out one of those big boxes that you had to have when Caller ID first came out. For those old enough to remember when you had to answer the phone without looking at it to see who was calling, It works!!!
I never did like these GE phones as they have very low audio even when turned all the way up. However, how do I know what phones will work? I would have thought that the newest 6.0 would work. Any suggestions? Any explinations why cordless phones are having caller ID issues with U-Voice?

For those who care:
I just purchased the Philips DECT 6.0 model SE450 DUO from Walmart for 59.88. The caller ID is working with this model.

panasonic dect work perfectly, as do the new ATT 6.0 dect phones..
Caller id/call waiting works perfectly, and, I get a flashing light on my phone, and a stutter tone when a voice mail is waiting..
panasonic kx-tg9344

both cordless/6.0 DECT systems

Can retrieval of voice mail be programmed for one button on these phones? I want to mimic the operation of a regular answering machine as much as possible, so a blinking light and one button retrieval is what I need.

I don't have U-VOICE yet, but my suggestion is to go with a 5.8 GHz digital (not analog), expandable setup. You can usually find these with one or two extensions in the kit already. The nice thing about the expandable sets is all the other functions. You can use them as an intercom system, a baby monitor, and you can transfer calls to other handsets to name a few. I have a Uniden set and I can get a clear signal a block away from my house. One thing I've learned, if you like the set you end up getting, go get a couple of extra extension sets for it right away as the models and designs change rapidly and the extension sets could become rare.
As far as the answering machine blinking when you get home. If you set the AT&T voice-mail to pick up after more rings than your home answering machine, then you should get messages on your home machine instead of the AT&T voice-mail. You can also dial into most home answering machines to get your messages remotely if required.

I have a Panasonic DECT 6.0 and it works great. Great sound!
I also have a 5.6GHz phone also works great on different VOIP provider. Do not use 2.4 GHz phones.

We have the AT&T 6.0 GHZ 5 phone base system and I really don't care for it myself. I liked my Uniden much better. But I have no idea if the Uniden is compatible with Uverse.
