I've been battling the above-referenced issue since 2012, and have yet to find a solution, a work-around, or anything else that remedies the problem. Here's what happens:
1. I install att.net (which I have been using since the late 1990s) as my default email in Windows Live Mail, using the instructions provided by AT&T.
2. Windows Live Mail successfully retrieves all of the emails on my att.net account.
3. Windows Live Mail is never able to successfully reconnect with my att.net account after the initial retrieval, on each occasion displaying the following message:
Unable to send or receive messages for the AT&T account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Server: 'inbound.att.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Yes I have read just about every reference to the problem on this forum and in Microsoft forums. A thorough reading of the responses indicates that no effective solution has ever been posted. Is it a permanent condition that att.net mail will never work with Windows Live Mail?
If someone – anyone – has a solution to this, I’d really like to hear it. Since att.net just recently changed their email appearance again, what limited functionality it did have for me just evaporated. I really need an email client that consistently works with AT&T webmail. Clearly, Windows Live Mail does not.
