I get that message also on some of my MMS, but only when my phone is on Wifi and someone sends me a picture message. It will say that the MMS expires on a certain date.
They don't download automatically, when on wifi. I have to turn on my data connection for the pic to download. I guess maybe they are only held for a certain period of time.

Actually both MMS and sms text messages have a expiration date built in, both message protocols are best attempt possibe, after a value set by the provider expires the messages are purged from the servers as undeliverable.
